Week One:
So. I wish I could fill this page with all the drama of our first expedition but to be honest, apart from the initial few hours where good ol Commander Deab managed to lose 4% hull strength while leaving the dock. Then a further 6% because he decided turning his thrusters off while in supercruise would be a good idea. He was experimenting with ways to save on fuel... Deab. Bless him. It has been rather uneventful.
The first fuel scooping was a terrifying experience to say the least. I honestly thought I would never get comfortable with it but lo and behold a couple of hundreds scoops later and I feel like a pro
. We managed to find a Water World a couple jumps from civilised space, of course someone had they're name on it but seeing this wonderful untouched world (from really close up) instantly inspired us.
Two days in and we feel comfortable enough to go our own directions. Commander Deab heads out to a star he feels that may be in an unexplored area. I decide to head to 3 Cancri. During the journey to 3 Cancri I managed to find four Water Worlds yet to be claimed. Two Ammonia Worlds and a Water Giant which was pretty cool. 3 Cancri, sadly, had been explored. Though a hundred Ly's or so away was what we originally came to see. The Eskimo Nebula.
Approaching the Eskimo Nebula was an awesome sight. A tiny red blob in the distance that get's more beautiful as you approach. I took the plunge, engaged my hyper drive and set off for the class O star, the most luminous and massive of the main sequence stars. I jumped into a spectacular sight of a blinding blueish white light that is GCRV 4981. Mesmerized, and somewhat intimidated by this massive star I decided not to fuel. I didn't trust myself. I would get drawn in by the beauty
On to the second reason we wanted to visit GCRV 4981 was the black hole situated there. After approaching the black hole very slowly to about 5Ls away, i was too afraid for my Beatrix and all the data we had collected together to get any closer. I was a little underwhelmed to say the least. Not much of a sight. But then I seen a couple of pictures someone else has taken of a black hole and they had a better experience with it so I'm only judging on what I saw.
Day seven. Today, I sit in the COL 70 SECTOR UH-W C17-5 system. With 100% percent on the hulls and modules. A route plotted to the stars around the Orion Nebula and as I get closer it grows more luminous and massive in the galactic background. I know I may be headed where people have already been but hell I came here to see some sights and that's what ima gonna do
So far I have discovered over a thousand astronomical objects, (which havn't been named) not bad for a first time out
And Deab, a modest six hundred. But he likes his sleep a little more than me
Fly safe Commander's. Hopefully the rest of the trip is this smooth and in a twenty three days time I should arrive home. Safe and sound
(I will include screenshots at some point
)
*EDIT* Our first expedition is live on my stream at twitch.tv/makostrifex if you'd like to pop in and say hi you can. It get's pretty lonely out in the deep black
