If you plan on long range exploration it's a good idea to bring an Auto Field-Maintenance Unit. It won't repair your hull or your canopy, but heat damage hits your modules first. Being able to patch things up can buy you some peace of mind when you're way out there limping home.

I'm East Coast as well, based in Massachusetts. Feel free to look me up in game, I play most evenings usually around 8-10pm. Right now that might not be too fruitful as I'm on the second week of my journey to Sagittarius A*, a trip I expect to run between 2-4 months.

If I were to participate in a conflict zone I would switch to Solo first. PvP is great and all, but my patience for it and the behavior it encourages died out about 10 years ago.
