So for as long as no NPC is onboard (active), you can blow up as often as you like or are unfortunate enough to do

Found one very nice thing as well today :

- Number of total Missions per Board significantly increased, seeing 106 Missions and 95 PAX Missions on a Mission Board with 7 Factions

That should make getting suitable Missions or loading up with them far easier.

I was part of the Wing and ~2km away when that unfortunate incident happened. I was aware that the rest of the Wing was locked on a CMDR all the time.
