Mostly because the pay is good (between 500k and 1mil for transport missions, generally between 1mil and 5mil for sightseeing missions...) But also every minor faction is Fed aligned, so while not meaning to I've gotten a ran...

I purchased an FDL, sold it about 15 minutes later, while it's stats make it a good fighter, I found it way too limiting in all other departments, especially in optional compartments and jump range, I guess I just prefer multi-role ships, FDL is good if the only thing you want to do is combat/assass...
