Without getting into the whole ED vs. SC debate - but how much?!!

That game gets $0 from me until it is released.

I was too broke to invest when the kickstarter ran. And with Roberts being Roberts I wanted to wait and see as well.

I'm still waiting and starting to shake my head a bit.
I'm honestly expecting them to announce they are switching 3d engines any minute now.

IF there as any context to the value of the package other than that it has everything its "value" could probably be justified. IE if they came out and said that it would take a committed player 3 years to amass enough wealth in game to purchase everything in the pack then if could be justified. I am not saying it would be an easy sale, but there are people out there who want to own everything so they can really enjoy the 4-6 hours they get to play a week.

At one point and time years ago I was leading WOW:BC raids three times a week as MT two hours at a time. That was not just my raid schedule, but the total amount of time I had a week to play. All raid prep was handled by friends and guildies, everything was going smoothly, I was having fun, and we were clearing almost every time, but then Wrath came out.

Needless to say playing only 4-6 hours a week I was left in the dust by everyone I knew. I became the guild office that was not actually an officer anymore because I didn't hold a raiding position. After a while because of frustration a lot of people I trained to raid had left guild because of problems with the new raid leaders and because my return was undetermined. In the end I left Wow and never really went back.

Now I am not say that I would have been willing to pay an outrageous amount of money for a max level character back then, but if I had enough money, I had know what was going to happen to the guild and my friends, and it was legitimate then I would have gladly paid to keep my position. It was never about grinding gear in dungeons or raids I never had time for the other stuff like leveling, professions, farming, and researching builds.

I minimized my exposure to SC quite some time ago to just one ship. When they release something that will actually run stably on my gaming laptop ,not require 20-30 gig of patches everytime and actually have systems I can hypercruise into then land on bases/planets - then I'll consider putting money in again. Here's to hoping they'll pull it off.

US$45 was my limit for SC. Was sorely tempted to buy the Hornet but then I found ED.

I don't really prescribe to this argument of buying your way through a game. It's a game. Playing it and purchasing game related stuff using in-game credits is supposed to be part of the gameplay.
As a mainly solo player I can't really understand the need of players to "keep up with the Joanses". I suppose some players only play games to play with their friends. But for me that's what my diving, Football and drinking sessions are for.
So I couldn't care less if a friend of mine had the latest and greatest gear. I'm not going to fork over real money to get it.
If he/she wants to run with me their more than welcome. If they ask me to join them someplace where my gear can't take me then I say "Have fun, fly safe. o7" (I also practice this IRL)

I am on the fence about SC. It seems that they want to do it all at once and I am afraid it won't work as well as they expect.

I have three games ranked #1, #2 and #3 for near future buys. At full retail it is $180.00 and that, to me, is just over the top.

Tom Clancy's The Division ( I actually played some of the beta this past week end and it is pretty much every that you all saw in that very impressive trailer that aired last year)

It was interesting to read the minimum PC specs on that page as well. Somehow I don't see the completed SC running on a 1GB video card....

Goddamn, and I thought the full deal package of that research ship they did a short time back was insane.
