It seems to be a pattern with FD as their skins are also a rip off and need to either be much cheaper or work on all ships. This isn't a free to play game so the pricing is unjustifiable as far as I'm concerned. They don't realise that far more people would be willing to buy add ons/skins if it's priced fair (i.e. cheap), likely making much more money then they do from them currently. I for one haven't bought a single skin and unless their policy changes I likely never will, as they just aren't good value for money (I mean £8 for one skin for one ship is ridiculous).

I would agree with you if the game was on a subscription based model. Having to pay a standing monthly order and then pay that sort of money on top would be excessive. As it currently stands, totally free to play after purchase and no 'pay-to-win' micro-transactions, I don't think it is unreasonable. Besides another way to look at it is just paying for your subscription for a year in one go - cheaper then WoW at £9.99 a month (and they are charging £34.99-49.99 for their expansion pack). So for two years WoW would cost you £274.75 - £298.75, ED will cost you £69.98 (based on the prices currently posted on the shop-site: Game = £29.99 Horizons = £39.99).

Although I have brought a few skins for ships, I refuse to pay over £5 for one. That said, given they are only a cosmetic thing is charging anything for them really good value?

Pre-ordered without hesitation, so looking forward to this...

The price (£30 with discount) is perfectly reasonable in my opinion, I've more than had my money's worth out of ED, so no problem paying for an expansion.

I've paid for the game, expansion pass, and premium beta access before the game came out, would I still need to pre-order Horizon? I believe I have access to all the expansions but just want to confirm.

Thank you! :)

@smartroad

Yeah those are some good points, though tbh I'd say that the WoW expansions are also a rip off (I don't play WoW, never have). It comes down to the individual I suppose, and as someone who doesn't have massive amounts of money for games I can't help but feel it is a rip off, but I can see why someone else might not. The thing is, for there to be a "transition" from space to atmosphere, it can't really be a stand alone (as far as I know at least). That means buyers have to have bought the original release plus the expansion, and to me at least asking £40 for the expansion (I refuse to ever pre-order anything on principle) just feels wrong. I mean is there going to be as much content as the original release? Even now people are saying that E:D is short on content (and as much as I like E:D, it is really) so asking for so much for an expansion leaves people feeling nickel and dimed.

R.E. the skins, yeah you're right, they don't have any real value so they should be much cheaper other wise people will still just not buy them (I still think that FD would make more money over all from them if they were much cheaper). Either way, fair points mate.

You will get access to beta testing for Horizons and the full version as you have Premium Beta (which came with the expansion pass).
Same as me :D

On the subject of the cost - I tend to look at it in terms of hours of entertainment for the price paid. I've had over 500 hours of entertainment for £35, that strikes me as exceedingly good value for money.

Now given that a cinema ticket cost £10 for 2 hours, even if I only get 50 hours out of the new content (and undoubtedly I'll get quite a bit more given planetary landings is only the first expansion in Horizons), then I already have good value for money.

My thinking pretty much exactly, according to steam I have just passed 600 hours game time, when I bought it I figured as with most games if I got a total of 20hours and hardly picked it up since I would have gotten my monies worth.
So by my initial expectations I have gotten 30x what I hoped for of fun and entertainment out of this.
And I'm not looking to quit anytime soon by the looks of things.

Well, I have succumbed to the hype with this one, and preordered with beta access ;)
