EliteDangerous.com store Steam keys with a drop of bitterness

The Steam keys are now available for players who bought the game via the official store.

If you do generate a key, though, all future purchases will be bound to your steam account, even if bought via the store, so in fact, Frontier will be losing part of all future revenue of you if you do generate the key.

My suggestion is therefore: If you don't really need a key, don't generate one.

Here is what Edward Lewis has to say about the matter: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?p=2293194

All EliteDangerous.com store players can now generate a Steam key to add it to their Steam library.

By generating a Steam key all future purchases made with your Frontier account will also be associated with your Steam account. This won't affect how much you pay for the game or for paint jobs, but sticking with the EliteDangerous.com store remains the best way to support ongoing development with 100 percent of your money on future purchases. We especially appreciate it when you buy direct from us, but we're happy for you to play how and where you like. Just enjoy the game, and fly safe Commanders!

Instructions to redeem:

Log into the Elite: Dangerous store.

Go to your account dashboard.

Click on ‘Partner Keys’

Click ‘Claim an Elite: Dangerous’ key.

You can redeem your code by selecting 'Games > Activate a Product On Steam' in the Steam UI.

Note: the key you generate will add Elite: Dangerous to any Steam library but WILL NOT grant access to the game without an existing registered Frontier account and copy of the game. For this reason, please don’t give your keys away to friends! They won’t be able to play without having already bought the game from Steam or the EliteDangerous.com store!

Btw. the store seems to be overrun at the moment, so you should try it out a little later. ;)

I don't see an upside to having it in steam if you did not buy it there in the first place.

I will put my moola in the hand of the man myself. Don't get me wrong, I like steam, but direct purchase is ok too. That being said, ORIGIN SUCKS! Booooo EA!

It's not clear to me that it means what you think it means.

I read it that if you continue to buy through frontier store all money stays with FD but if you buy through steam they then get a cut. Whichever one you choose the painting etc will still be available.

So, use Frontier store to buy stuff so more money goes to develop the game rather than to Steam.

Edit: Nope, I'm wrong. Steam will get a cut from FD store purchases as well.

amen to that. Origin is right up there with Uplay in the 'why did they bother' category.

Just an easy way for them to make you swallow their DRM's, I guess.

I'm with you. I like Steam, and use it a lot. However, I will stick with the FD store for my E:D purchases.
