Got the notice in game. Cut my RES hunt short, but that's okay. Means I can get some new toys.
But Friday? Either they are working the weekend or planning o nLOTS of work next week. Bug squashing and replacing ships and credits lol.

Yes got the server notice, got wanted in a RES so ran to the nearest station to pay that off.

O. M. G. I guess I am going to get drunk and make more VA profiles.
I may not have enough Corona's to last me. Good thing I have a spare dozen Heineken.

An email announcment would have been nice 
I had been looking forward to getting on with some exploration this early eve as I am busy later
Why can't they have upgraded the 'beta' server and switched over to that so there is no need to upgrade, then use the 'main' server as the beta one for next time?

The upgrade likely has to be done regardless, even if they pointed the beta servers to the live database it would likely need an update there as well. That said their beta servers/cluster is likely smaller than their live one, very expensive to have a 1:1 for an environment you only use occasionally. Even if they did what you suggest it would still require an outage otherwise the cloned database will be several hours older by the time it's ready... which could mean lost progress.
EDIT: On the patch, oh boy, pretty excited and nervous. Short day at work today for summer hours so I can get my chores done for some playing tonight.
