Mayhem - Groups Shoutout

Postby Wolf » Mon Sep 14, 2015 10:47 am

Greetings Commanders,

Some of you may have already seen Julissa's post in the group events forum. Frontier is looking for group organized events to hold during their stress testing of the new 1.4 build. The obvious advantage for our group would be much higher exposure to the Elite: Dangerous playerbase and free promotion by Frontier for the group. The already trusted us with the rank of "Triple Elite", so I expect many posts below! ;)

Just as a reminder, here is the important part of the mail:

Zac Antonaci wrote:Hey guys,

This email is being sent out to all registered contacts for Player Groups.

As some of you will have read we are soon going to be going into an open stress test phase with our latest update and we’re calling that period Mayhem.

Mayhem is a series of community events which players can get involved in that will run on the beta servers. The aim of this is to get as many people in as possible to stress test those servers.

We have a host of stuff lined up already and the schedule is looking great. But we’d love to use the opportunity to promote your events and groups too.

The Mayhem period will run between the 21st Sep – 4th Oct. With the servers opening up slightly earlier and potentially closing slightly later. We will have official livestreams, Some special involvement from some well know community streamers and open PVE events.

We’re sending out this invitation to see if any groups would like to hold an event in the beta servers (CQC or the main game) which we would be able to add to the list of events and promote on your behalf.

The events could be anything but the following are a few suggestions that are both serious and less serious.

- Group grudge match - 2 player groups each side has 1 ship each. They come to an agreed Combat Zone at a set time and the players can join in by picking a ship and joining in.
- Anaconda owners club, Cobra appreciation day, Viper parade etc
- Speed landing contests
- Races
- Etc

If you would like to register to run one an event please send us the following details to me and Ed.

- Event name:
- Event organizer (Group or leader):
- Date:
- Time:
- Details (Include location, any sign up forms etc)

Now I would like to ask all members to submit their ideas here in this thread. In order to keep it simple we will kind of stick to Zac's Format. So please include the following details for your suggestions for the events this group should hold:

  • Event name:
  • Event organizer (CMDR or ElitePvE Forum name):
  • Date: (possible dates: 21st Sep – 4th Oct)
  • Time: (what suits you, the organizer, best)
  • Details (Include location, any sign up forms etc)

If you cannot organize the event yourself, just leave the organizer line empty for now, but it would be a great help for us admins and of great value to the group if you could volunteer for organizing your proposed idea yourself. Please don't let this discourage you from posting, we admins will do our part and organize something. This thread here is more for finding ideas.

Later this week (probably wednesday and thurstday, we have to move fast) we will hold a short poll about which events we should propose to Frontier. We then will go into disussion with the event organizers on the details.

I know this all pretty short term, but I hope we will have some great ideas to propose to Frontier by Friday! :)

Thanks
Wolf

I'm not one for organising, but here's my idea. I think it fits in well with the spirit of Mobius group, and should give great exposure.
An event of this kind would probably gain attention from Code and other ass hats, so we should come prepared.

Event name: WELCOME ABOARD COMMANDER (or WAC...)

Event organizer (CMDR or ElitePvE Forum name): ANYONE WHO WANTS TO :)

Date: (possible dates: 21st Sep – 4th Oct): ANY

Time: (what suits you, the organizer, best): ANY

Details (Include location, any sign up forms etc): GATHERING IN STARTER SYSTEMS (LHS 3447 AND THE LIKE) AND GREETING ALL COMMANDERS LARGE OR SMALL. DROPPING GOLD OR OTHER PRECIOUS CARGO, AND ENGAGING IN HELPFUL CHAT WITH ANYONE WHO CARES TO. PREFERABLY NEWCOMERS, SO SMALL SHIPS SHOULD BE PRIMARY OBJECTIVES. :)

As said in the beginning, this sort of event should attract all kinds of scum, so I suggest bringing hardpoints and shields, and being prepared for mayhem... Ahem... Hint: Don't bet more than you're prepared to lose. :)

Fly safe commanders.

Edit: Seeing as many in Mobius group are newcomers themselves, us old farts could share wealth and wisdom with you there as well. :)

I love the idea of the greeting newbies event, and I'd expand it to add the idea of pairing up with them in wings for their first hour or so - but I strongly don't agree with dropping cargo for them - part of the joy of starting out in Elite is working your way up from nothing, and that would deprive them of that.

Same here.

How about a comms chatter event - helping new players set up their microphone and introducing them to TS?

I agree. Anti cargo here.
The best times was when I was moving from starter sidey and upward.
It's like buying your first new car bc you saved the money yourself.

A caddy from daddy is no where as fun.

How about a flight of the eagles event. Find a zone that sells the Eagle and most of the lower level parts for it that is also has an active CZ. Invite everyone and have fun with multiple wings of all eagles.

I am also anti cargo but if it is to help someone with an eagle I am not opposed to giving away a ton or two of gold. I mean after the event everyone should have a bit more credits than they started with.

  • Event name: THE ULTIMATE JUMP or THE MULTI-SHIP JUMP or anything less dorky as what I suggested

  • Event organizer (CMDR or ElitePvE Forum name): Anyone. I can but no experience organizing anything

  • Date: (possible dates: 21st Sep – 4th Oct): On a weekend in order to get as many CMDR's/ships as possible

  • Time: (what suits you, the organizer, best): If I organize it my schedule is wide open as I'm sitting at home recovering from a shoulder operation...fun stuff

  • Details (Include location, any sign up forms etc): Gather as many ships as possible in one system and have a coordinated jump to an already pre-determined system. All ships would jump at the same, or as close to the same time as possible. There would be CMDR's in both the starting system and the destination system rolling cameras. 2 or 3 cameramen per system would be best to capture different angles. To accomplish the mass timed jump I believe the best way would be to have all ships in a small enough "parking" area where they can all be seen by the camera crew but obviously not too close to one another to cause crowding. All ships would be at zero throttle. When the "charge FSD" command is given then all ships charge their FSD but are still at zero throttle...not moving at all. The second command would be a countdown at which all would hit their boost button. This method would cause the ships to jump all at about the same time.

Now this is a very simple idea that came to my head as soon as I read the OP. Maybe it's not complicated or interesting enough but I'll keep thinking of other ideas...after all I do seem to have the time :P

Hmm, a random thought.

Chaff parades :)
For new members we get together a few times a week outside mobius station in Azrael,
Simply put. They undock, we salute with a rain of chaff, Maybe throw in a
Add on top an excuse for some teamspeak carousing and other shenanigans it can become quite an amusing and memorable event for both parties.

I also agree that donating cargo most likely backfires.
You hit endgame pretty quick in this game so you need to fall in love with it of it before you hit the worst of the boredom, and being just given your first few million takes away from earning your way up.

Now sharing trade routes, tips, tricks is a completely different matter, it also engages the new players far more than playing "catch this!" for two hours.

Assuming that as it's a beta that some of the normal restrictions could be lightened, and as the idea is to 'stress test' then a few ideas that come to mind that people may want to run with...

Rugby - Two teams, the with four additional CMDRs acting as goal post, a cargo pod is placed in the centre of the field, when it starts the idea is to pick up the cargo and drop it in the goal of the opposite team. If you get tagged (nudged by an opposing player) you have to drop the cargo, the other player then picks it up, etc, and so on... First team to x goals wins. Destroying a player by tagging them too hard gets you sin binned for a period of time.

Sardines - as many CMDRs as possible in Eagles start at 7.5km out facing the entrance slot to a station, after everyone requests docking, and when the signal is sounded everyone rushes to the slot as fast as possible, the idea is to see how many can fit through the slot in one go.

Tag - using mining lasers, everyone starts as a group and one CMDR is designated 'it', on the count the idea is for the one that is it to tag another play by hitting them with a mining laser shot, whilst every one else tries to avoid them, if you get hit then you are it, etc, etc (would need to restrict the play area of course)

Demolition Derby - sidwinders, no weapons, no shields, you know how it works

Chicken - who can go through the slot at a given (very fast speed) and stop closest to the back of the station without hitting it.
