Possible Reason For Spinning Ship Bug: Decals

If you are experiencing a spinning or frozen ship when trying to start the game it may be because of a bug that has been identified.

Here is a post on the official forums:

IMPORTANT! Please don't apply decals
Hello Commanders!

UPDATE: if your ship already has a decal applied and you can still access your save, you should be fine to leave it - it's the act of applying a decal that causes the bug to strike.

We've uncovered a bug that will make your save inaccessible if you apply a decal.

Your save isn't lost, but you won't be able to access it (and thus play the game).

We're working on a fix that should go out either later today or tomorrow. So if you have found yourself in the situation where you can't load your game, hold fast; we will fix all affected saves when we fix the bug.

And until we confirm the fix has gone live, please avoid applying decals.

Thanks for bearing with us!

Oh. I put this up here because it wasn't 'stickied' on the official forum and may have been missed. I haven't even tried playing since 2 even after upgrading .01 and .02 so I may be affected too. I haven't applied decals so if I get the problem I will ticket it.

I've got the endlessly spinning ship yesterday evening for some time, then it got working again. And I never applied a decal. So the decal is not the only thing that can cause it.

But that was when their server was down. Therefore I believe that issue can also be caused by failing to access the authentication server or something like that. So to those who have this problem constantly, I'd suggest searching in that area. For example temporarily disable your firewall, or make sure E:D is allowed to go through, and that kind of stuff.
