Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

So I'm drving my SRV out on the Distant Worlds Expedition, I get a little distracted and I don't hop over some rocks that I normally would have. Next thing I know I nearly lost it. Now I've had worse crashes than that - not hitting rocks but falling down mountains, but I've never taken damage like that before. I thought they were supposed to have fixed an SRV damage bug!

Rolling like you did is probably what caused you to take so much damage. Or something like that. It wasn't from the rock impact itself, but when your back left hit the ground. The SRV wheel damage bug has made a huge change in regards to when you land on all six wheels, but maybe for landing on a singular wheel it's different?
