CMDR Baigs at your service.

Forgive the title but after seeing "Lion on the prowl" I couldn't help myself.

I've only been playing a few days but I love the game and dabble in Bounty Hunting, Trade, and some smuggling. I'm working slowly up the Empire's chain , am currently a serf. I'm thinking of maybe an Imperial Clipper or a Courier, but admit with the Cobra I've been flying I am tempted to go back to the Eagle, it is a so much more fun ship to fly even for being so weak.

I prefer smaller, fighter type ships, and wouldn't mind when ingame flying Escort. I do use gimble because am on mouse and keyboard and my aim sucks so much I can barely beat the tutorial sidewinder that your evenly matched against.

I do admit if there were bombers (mainly what I fly in War Thunder) in this game I'd be in them but the Anacanda and other larger vessels don't really appeal to me right now, cept on ways a light fighter may be able to take one out if possible.

I do RP so if others do could possibly learn to Rp in ths game (since we are stuck in cockpits and no walking around other places or stations)

Welcome to the group, Baigs! Another fighter ship you may want to consider is the Diamondback Scout. It starts around 565,000 credits, and is an absolute BLAST to fly! Very maneuverable, very 'combat ready' with some solid loadouts, and pretty decent shields. It has a heck of a jump range, too.

Welcome, Mouse :D

I HAD TO say hello after you referenced me, didn't I?

Like you, I prefer the small combat ships. BIG Cobra fan, although I might give the Scout a test-ride - one day. Unlikely we'll meet in-game though - I try to avoid the Empire as much as I can.

BTW I was a beta-tester for War Thunder, 3 years ago, but got sick of it long before it went live.

Thank you very much JohnLuke, I will look into the scout. I like the Idea of a long jump range.

And Hello to you as well Lion :) When I saw your post I had to laugh at the odds and the old fable popped up in my head. I understand not liking the Empire, kinda don't like either them or the Federation, I view myself as an independent agent. But I want the ship so I have to hobnob with the Impies for now. When my sky starts to feel awful crowed I will be hitting the black.

Thanks to JohnLuke for letting me know where I can get a Diamondback Scout. I'm back in Federation space at the moment.

So this is my loadout.

Yes it is overpowered but have set my power distribution so that When weapons deploy, Cargo scoop, Fuel Scoop, and FSD drive go offline bringing me back under my max power output. Still need to earn enough to outfit the A4 FSD and the Advanced Discover Scanner.

I like this set up, have soloed two Mostly Harmless Anacondas with it and both times came out with at least 50% hull.

If I set it up for full Explorer mode by switching the cannons to Pulses or all 4 weapons to pulse, how much will that hamstring me damage wise?

Pulse lasers won't take down an opponent's hull as quickly as a hull-specialized weapon, but they're not too bad. You'll take a little longer to clean up hostiles but you can still do it.

If you like fighters, I think you'll love the Courier. It's only a little less agile than the Eagle, but with a lot more outfitting options and much more punch :)

I wondered why buy a Courier when a Cobra would do everything better? The only drawback of the Cobra I could think of is its lack of utility slots with would give the Courier far superior shielding.

So I did some testing, and the courier looks like the ideal mission board ship, in spite of its limited jump range which is irrelevant for bulletin board missions, it can fit just about anything you'd need: limited cargo space (8 tons); weapons that should be able to take out any ship and a shield that allows for moderately sustained fighting. Also the cost of an A-specced Courier comes to around 9 million, where the Cobra would come in close to 15 million with 16 to 20 tons of cargo space.

I will have to outfit them and do some fighting and see how I like it.. maybe take another "Mostly Harmless" anaconda on and see the difference.

And ne day I will have a Courier

I really didn't like the Cobra, it felt unwieldy to me. The only thing the Cobra had over the Scout, and seems to be the Courier was cargo space. It seems to be a jack of all trades master of none type ship.
