Elite: Dangerous PvE - Mobius

Hi guys/galls. I am CMDR ilwrath in-game. I have put quite a few hours into this game, but I got into exploring early on so I always played in solo mode. I got burned out on exploring, so I came back to the bubble to work on my other ranks. But I was having a rough time with combat and trade on my own, so I switched over to open play to maybe get some help from other players sometimes. Well, I never saw any other player anywhere, and I had no idea how to find anyone. The game doesn't seem to have any social tools to help, not that I could find anyway. So I go online to search how to find other players in the game, and the more I read about how open play was, the more I was worried about actually running into another players in-game lol. I'm not a big fan of PVP. Especially sense I'm not to confident I could blast my way our of a wet paper bag with a multi cannon lol. Anyway, I also saw Mobius mentioned quite a bit, which is how I ended up here.
BTW I don't have the Horizons expansion yet. Should I go ahead and get it? Are most of the group working on content that requires Horizons, like community goals and such? I read that it's a good place to find other online players.

Community goals are normally well populated in Mobius, and you find quite a few people in the general area around Azrael (see below).

As for Horizons, there are not that many events specific to it yet, but personally I'd recommend it, content is admittedly a bit light at the moment, but 2.1 looks good, and frankly driving around in your buggy is great fun in itself.

Please feel free to add your name to the In game friends list thread, and check out our TeamSpeak servers to easily chat with, and possibly wing up with other commanders.

Also, make sure to check the Policy page if you haven't already .

On top of all of that, we also have a Facebook group and Twitter feed.

There is a lot of great info on the message board, and we have compiled a long list of Tips and Tricks to help new players acclimatize to the game while having fun.

I agree with Xebeth's recommendations above ^^^^.

Community goals are a great way to meet other Mobius members, no doubt. And a lot of us have a home base close to Azrael (I use Gende for it's fantastic outfitting and proximity to a lot of systems with good bounty hunting).

It wouldn't be a bad idea to wait a bit to get horizons, since you are still getting settled into the "bubble activities" in the game. Once you get a solid foundation and are ready to take on surface activities, then you could get Horizons. Or... if it goes on sale, snatch it up!
