Greetings! Totally new player here and sent the join request to MOBIUS PVE group last night in game. I've had my eye on Elite Dangerous for a few weeks now and took the plunge last night when the sale hit. A brief background is that I've been online gaming since around 2000 with games such as Quake and Diablo before getting sucked into mmorpgs around 2004. Nothing like the feeling of being a first time WoW player during vanilla and going into the BC expansion with friends to discover it with. The magic was strong for 4 or 5 good years. Since then and over the past few years I've kept up with the WoW expansions and dabbled around with other mmo titles but it's felt like a dying genre that hasn't held my interest in a long time.

I recently picked up a new PC along with the HTC Vive to experience the world of VR (fantastic experience) and noticed Elite Dangerous for the first time. I've never really tried out any sort of space exploration or flight sim although I am very interested in space itself. After researching ED and watching some tutorials videos over the past few weeks my interest grew especially after I saw the massive size of the galaxy. Knowing that there is so little of it explored is even more exciting. I ordered the Thrustmaster HOTAS X and tried out the free combat tutorial not in VR. Took me some time to get the button mappings and flying down but after a few hours I was able to breeze through all of the tutorial missions except the final one with multiple waves, I was stumped on the 5th wave I believe.

Last night I purchased the commander deluxe edition and tried it out in VR with the Vive.. holy crap! Totally worth it. I spent about 2 hours going back through some combat tutorials to get used to the scale of everything in VR then I did the landing and travel tutorials. I plan on jumping into it for real tonight although I'm definitely a little nervous and won't have any clue as of what I should do initially but this is definitely bringing back that magical feeling (that I haven't had in years since WoW back in the day) of first discovering something on this leveling again.

Greetings and welcome to Mobius, Commander X'fire

I'm really glad to hear that ED has brought back that magical feeling, as an ex-WoW player myself I totally get where you are coming from, I still remember the first time I went to Stormwind and was blown away by the size and the number of people running about (there also happened to be a Hoard raid happening at the time which helped with the sense of amazement).

Please feel free to add your name to our 'In game friends lists'

In game friends list for PC

and check out our TeamSpeak servers to easily chat with, and possibly wing up with other commanders.

Also, make sure to check the Policy page if you haven't already Image.

On top of all of that, we also have a Facebook group and Twitter feed.

There is a lot of great info on the message board, and we have compiled a long list of Tips and Tricks to help new players acclimatize to the game while having fun.

Finally, if you are interested in being involved, go here to see information about our player group faction, the Order of Mobius (based at Rafferty's Mobius station in the Azrael system). We have our own Discord (voice and text chat) servers for supporters of Mobius, as well as our own Order of Mobius Twitter feed.

Welcome CMDR!

Just know that you can freely jump back and forth between Solo and Open any time you want and not loose any progress. And once you are accepted to Mobius that's like solo but with others :)

Didn't quite got that myself at first so.

I've been doing solo until I recently joined Mobius. In open you never know the true intentions of a human opponent. Though that adds to the immersion for some, I don't like player versus player fights at all.

In Mobius space it seems every CMDR waves you a friendly hi! If you encounter each other. Which is a nice extra for me and a way to make friends.

Fly safe and feel free to join some of us in chat at Discord some time always nice to chat with fellow pve cmdrs.

Welcome to the group, commander X'fire.

It sounds like you've been having a blast doing the tutorials with your Vive (a bit jealous, yes I am).

The learning curve in E-D is pretty darn steep, so be sure to ask questions!
