Question for fellow explorers?

Postby Emanon » Mon Mar 23, 2015 4:53 pm

Forgive me for not providing a screenshot as I'm not at my home computer right now but my question could not wait (AND I guess I'm too lazy to go to the official forums to try and look for this).

When looking at my commander stats the other night in panel 4 and going through all my credit making career stuff, I noticed there was a Level 2 Detailed Scans and Level 3 Detailed scans in my explorer section (again that may not be exact wording). Both of those items had zero in them - so I was wondering is that just future functionality? Because I have the Advanced Scanner and the Detailed Surface Scanner so I don't know how else to do level 2 and 3 scans.

Thank you to my fellow explorers! See you out and about in the big black!

As far as I have heard, its for the Future. No idea what that will be.

Yeah, placeholder for future exploration scans. So that means you need to go and Re-scan all your findings!

The stats are live now, and you don't have to rescan anything. :D

I just don't know what they mean, which is why I'm here... :P

Just a short in the dark, Level 2 is undiscovered objects you've scanned and Level 3 is valuable objects like terrabforables? Not that I'm sure I can get the numbers to match that for me either, but what do I know? :D

Level 2 is supposed to be detailed scans without the Detailed Surface Scanner and Level 3 is supposed to be detailed scans with the Detailed Surface Scanner. The scans have been retroactively added to everyone's statistics with 1.2.07 patch, but for some (most?) players the level 2 & 3 scans seem to be reversed, FDEV is aware of the bug and is looking into it.

Level 2 scans mean you've actually scanned the object, not just used a discovery scanner, level 3 scans mean you have a Detailed Surface Scanner onboard when you did the scan.

There's been an update to the post on the main Elite forums about this today by Frontier themselves. The link is here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=136192 and there looks to be a possibility of level 3 scans not being recorded at all and potentially millions of credits missing from explorer's bank balances.

Interesting. That means exploring could get a boost and actually become a worthy profession. I've spent my early days exploring and right now it doesn't even come close to fighting/trading - but I have zero lvl 3 scans...

Exploration is actually a "fast track" into Elite and the permanent Founders World rebate. You can make Elite in a month while exploring, and by the time you're done you also have around 160M to spend at Jameson Memorial. And you don't even need a fancy 100M+ ship to do that, just a "little" grit. It is after all still thousands of systems you have to visit. :D

It could and I hope it does get a boost. I have 0 level 3 scans too and although I'm not that far out and only scanned a few hundred systems, it would be good to stay out of the habitable bubble until it's fixed. I'm hoping they find a fix for when the Power-Play update comes along.
