Eagles,Just wanted to update some of the things I posted about earlier:
@Incubuss Welcome to the wing my friend!
1.) I still haven't heard back from the admins about the TS channel. However, I didn't realize this before, but I can actually create a channel in the TS and password protect it. It's just something that I would have to do each session. When a number of us get on (like 2 or more), I'll make a channel that we can all jump to. However, if they do grant us our own channel, cool.
2.) I have made a decision about the base. Please understand that not everyone will love it or agree with it, but I had to base it on a few things that didn't leave me many choices unless I wanted to spend days and days scouring the verse for a decent place to call home. The base will be located in the
"Borr" system. It's a little ways out, but the benefits of it are pretty great:
"Armstrong City" is the coriolis starport nearest the jump-in star. It's not that far away, and it has EXCELLENT outfitting for both components and weapons. You can get class A everything in sizes 1-7. It also has a great shipyard that sells the viper, cobra, python, asp type 6, hauler, and the anaconda. They obviously also have sidewinders should the need arise for a shuttle. Since we don't know where the new ships will be sold, this will work best for newer players.
The system is a FED system.
There is a gas giant with 3 extraction sites just outside the base for easy access to hunting grounds. There is also a nav beacon at each of the stars in the system. At least I think so, I didn't have time this morning to fly around the entire system. There are also a few other planets with collection sites in the system. They are a bit further away, but it's really not that big of a deal. There is also a metal rich planet and planet w/rings in the system. In the future, mining may become more prominent. This gives our wing the chance to hunt/protect with miners in the ring sites. If they add the bonus for mining in wings like they did with trading, it will be decent money.
There are also decent trade routes in the area. Whether I want to admit it or not, if you want to have decent things in the game, you have to trade; at least for the time being. For those who are willing to grind it out for a bit, you will be able to have bigger ships with the best outfitting. Trust me, it's worth the time it takes to make the money. Take it from a guy flying a python that is a fully combat-capable ship with 272 slots of cargo

With this ship, I make about 650k every 12 minutes trading. Then, I can swap over to killing stuff with my best buds

Also, just in case everyone didn't know, there will be a buff to those ships who trade together in a wing. Not sure of the mechanic's specifics, but it will give us incentive to either trade together or fly escort for each other.
There are some downsides. The outposts in the system are very "out" posts... They are about 70k ls away from the star. That being said, I don't see much point in a black market (the usual appeal for outposts) for a bounty hunting wing anyway. We may not really have much reason to visit these outposts at all; considering that we can just fly back to Armstrong City to refuel, rearm, repair, etc... The other downside is that the base isn't super close to Sol. That being said, Sol is really not that great of a place to have a base outside of the "cool" factor. It doesn't have great trade routes or outfitting. This system seems to better suit our purpose for those things.
3.) I was able to get the quindar tones working for TS, but after hearing how much everyone keys up, this gets really annoying. Imagine Neal Armstrong just constantly pressing a quindar tone button... Sigh... No... Anyway, there are some great nextel police radio clicks (appropriate for bounty hunting I would think?) out there that you can install. I suck at writing guides for this kind of stuff, but here's the basics if you want your radio to sound awesome:
Install the "Cross-talk" plugin for TS 3. This can be found on the TS add-ons website. Just Google it. It's super easy to install. Once installed, just use the plugin via the drop down menu in TS to access it and change the options. You can tweak it however you want, but the basic premise here is that it changes all INCOMING voices to sound like they're coming through an actual radio. The higher the distortion setting is, the more "broken" and "radioey" the sound. If you turn it up a bit, it sounds like everyone is talking through a viper from Battlestar Galactica. It's a great immersion addition.
There is a great video on Youtube about installing Nextel mic clicks. These are the sounds played when you, or someone else, keys up or lets go of their TS push-to-talk button. It really does make a great addition to the immersion factor. Since we're all semi-cops here in terms of bounty hunting, it's pretty neat. There is also a "chhh" sound at the end of everyone's transmissions. Combined with light role-playing pilot chatter, this would be superly cool
4.) Localized wings were also brought up. This will more than likely happen. For example, I have a feeling more and more people are going to get into trading. There will probably be a couple subdivisions in the "wing." We are actually going to start calling ourselves a "squadron;" the parent to a wing in this case. Each wing will still be called the 365th ________, but will just be trading, mining, etc...
Anyway, that's all for now; as I have lots to do today planet-side

Hope everyone is doing well!
Turbo out.
