Hey Eagles,

Just thought I'd chime in and give my two cents regarding a few of the topics that have come up:

Base: I really like the idea of finding a system close to the Sol system (as I'm aware not everyone has a Sol Permit yet). Seems to be a nice central hub for most of Federation space, plus it is our glorious capital after all. Also it has a good selection of economies well within reasonable jump range (including high tech systems for outfitting/trade).

Roleplaying: Totally down for using the squadron shorthand (might take me a couple sessions to get the hang of it), as long as we're not too uptight about breaking script once in a while and having fun. :D

Localized Wings: This definitely makes a lot of since, especially with the bulk of the group playing in Europe. That being said, I'm not sure if we have enough regional variety to justify setting up assigned groups within the wing just yet. I'm thinking we just wing it for the first couple weeks (no pun intended... ok, maybe just a little) just to figure out the overlap in time zones. Hopefully we can get a couple more people States side to help even things out.

Anyways, fly safe(ish) and see you in space Commanders!

I totally agree with Crisp on the three points.
Their will be a time of adaptation at the beginning of the wings to figure out how it works and how much we happen to be able to play at the same time. See you in space!

Eagles,

Greetings CMDRs! Just an update for a few things. I finally got a few days off now so I can get some housekeeping stuff done for us:

1.) Private TS Channel: I have sent a message to the admins on the forums asking for a private channel for just us. I have requested that this channel, if allowed, be password protected. That being said, if we are allowed to operate a private channel in TS, DO NOT GIVE OUT THE PASSWORD! I in now way want to exclude any member of Elite: PvE, but I have seen TS channels get downright stupid with everything from completely annoying folks that aren't even in the group to abortion debates (sigh... true, unfortunately...). I would simply appreciate if everyone would keep the password secret. The other option I have asked for is for the admins to allow me to be an admin for TS in general. This will allow me to keep an organized channel with the appropriate controls without much fuss. Anyway, below is the message I sent them. I am currently awaiting a reply :)

Elite PvE Admins,

Greetings! As you may have seen, the 365th Eagles Federation Fighter squadron is growing. We're gaining some membership, and I wanted to ask you all for a few things:

Could we possibly have a TS channel that is password protected added? It could simply read "365th Steel Eagles Squadron." It would be nice to have a localized TS channel that only we could use. Not that I want to exclude any member of the group, but I've never had luck in any gaming community with leaving a channel used for operations/etc... open to everyone. I've always had to ask people to leave after a while due to lack of focus, or conversations that have nothing to do with the game (yes, I've heard abortion debates in TS...). This would be a welcome addition for my squadron, and we would all appreciate it :) If a better option would be to simply make me a TS admin in the sense that I can control our own channel, I would be willing to do this as well. So, in short, it would be nice to have either a specific channel for us, be a TS admin so that I can create one myself, and to allow this room to be password protected. Thanks! Turbo out.

2.) A Base: Today, I will be sifting through the galaxy map to locate a suitable system for our wing. Considering that we aren't really a PvP bunch, I'll be basing my decision on a couple things: 1.) input from you all, 2.) proximity to Sol, and 3.) the usefulness of stations in the system (high tech, rearm, repair, etc...). I'll let everyone know when I've selected a suitable system. I do think that something near the Sol system is appropriate, and the base will definitely be in federation space. Look for a decision sometime in the next few days!

3.) Roster: At first, I was planning to create a roster that would be visible to everyone on the forums. However, I don't think this is going to matter as much until the update releases. At some point, we will have ourselves a maintained roster with some cool visual effects that sticks to the original recruitment post I made for everyone to see. This will highlight the information that I've asked all of you for recently.

4.) TS Sounds (Quindar, key ups, etc...): This week, I will be putting a little guide together about enhancing your TS to sound like a sci-fi radio with quindar sounds; at least that's my goal. I've messed around with TS stuff before, but it can be a little bit enigmatic. I'm working on this now as we speak!

Everyone keep having fun and enjoy what we've got going here! I've been hearing some of the beta backers talking about the new ships (Fur de Lance and Vulture), and I'm not hearing very good things. Apparently the power for the vulture is extremely low, and the fur de lance costs more than the ASP to repair; making it a difficult bounty hunting ship. This, coupled with the fact that the corvette is not releasing with the wings update leads me to believe I'll be getting a python as soon as I can. This will most likely be what I fly until the more ships come out. Anyway, I haven't played the update so I don't know for sure if any of these rumors are true. Hope everyone has a good day! Expect another update soon. Turbo out.

Eagles,

Just wanted to update some of the things I posted about earlier:

@Incubuss Welcome to the wing my friend!

1.) I still haven't heard back from the admins about the TS channel. However, I didn't realize this before, but I can actually create a channel in the TS and password protect it. It's just something that I would have to do each session. When a number of us get on (like 2 or more), I'll make a channel that we can all jump to. However, if they do grant us our own channel, cool.

2.) I have made a decision about the base. Please understand that not everyone will love it or agree with it, but I had to base it on a few things that didn't leave me many choices unless I wanted to spend days and days scouring the verse for a decent place to call home. The base will be located in the "Borr" system. It's a little ways out, but the benefits of it are pretty great:

"Armstrong City" is the coriolis starport nearest the jump-in star. It's not that far away, and it has EXCELLENT outfitting for both components and weapons. You can get class A everything in sizes 1-7. It also has a great shipyard that sells the viper, cobra, python, asp type 6, hauler, and the anaconda. They obviously also have sidewinders should the need arise for a shuttle. Since we don't know where the new ships will be sold, this will work best for newer players.

The system is a FED system.

There is a gas giant with 3 extraction sites just outside the base for easy access to hunting grounds. There is also a nav beacon at each of the stars in the system. At least I think so, I didn't have time this morning to fly around the entire system. There are also a few other planets with collection sites in the system. They are a bit further away, but it's really not that big of a deal. There is also a metal rich planet and planet w/rings in the system. In the future, mining may become more prominent. This gives our wing the chance to hunt/protect with miners in the ring sites. If they add the bonus for mining in wings like they did with trading, it will be decent money.

There are also decent trade routes in the area. Whether I want to admit it or not, if you want to have decent things in the game, you have to trade; at least for the time being. For those who are willing to grind it out for a bit, you will be able to have bigger ships with the best outfitting. Trust me, it's worth the time it takes to make the money. Take it from a guy flying a python that is a fully combat-capable ship with 272 slots of cargo :) With this ship, I make about 650k every 12 minutes trading. Then, I can swap over to killing stuff with my best buds :) Also, just in case everyone didn't know, there will be a buff to those ships who trade together in a wing. Not sure of the mechanic's specifics, but it will give us incentive to either trade together or fly escort for each other.

There are some downsides. The outposts in the system are very "out" posts... They are about 70k ls away from the star. That being said, I don't see much point in a black market (the usual appeal for outposts) for a bounty hunting wing anyway. We may not really have much reason to visit these outposts at all; considering that we can just fly back to Armstrong City to refuel, rearm, repair, etc... The other downside is that the base isn't super close to Sol. That being said, Sol is really not that great of a place to have a base outside of the "cool" factor. It doesn't have great trade routes or outfitting. This system seems to better suit our purpose for those things.

3.) I was able to get the quindar tones working for TS, but after hearing how much everyone keys up, this gets really annoying. Imagine Neal Armstrong just constantly pressing a quindar tone button... Sigh... No... Anyway, there are some great nextel police radio clicks (appropriate for bounty hunting I would think?) out there that you can install. I suck at writing guides for this kind of stuff, but here's the basics if you want your radio to sound awesome:

Install the "Cross-talk" plugin for TS 3. This can be found on the TS add-ons website. Just Google it. It's super easy to install. Once installed, just use the plugin via the drop down menu in TS to access it and change the options. You can tweak it however you want, but the basic premise here is that it changes all INCOMING voices to sound like they're coming through an actual radio. The higher the distortion setting is, the more "broken" and "radioey" the sound. If you turn it up a bit, it sounds like everyone is talking through a viper from Battlestar Galactica. It's a great immersion addition.

There is a great video on Youtube about installing Nextel mic clicks. These are the sounds played when you, or someone else, keys up or lets go of their TS push-to-talk button. It really does make a great addition to the immersion factor. Since we're all semi-cops here in terms of bounty hunting, it's pretty neat. There is also a "chhh" sound at the end of everyone's transmissions. Combined with light role-playing pilot chatter, this would be superly cool :)

4.) Localized wings were also brought up. This will more than likely happen. For example, I have a feeling more and more people are going to get into trading. There will probably be a couple subdivisions in the "wing." We are actually going to start calling ourselves a "squadron;" the parent to a wing in this case. Each wing will still be called the 365th ________, but will just be trading, mining, etc...

Anyway, that's all for now; as I have lots to do today planet-side ;) Hope everyone is doing well! Turbo out.
