yea, you get better at spotting the ones worth something and get a bit selective over time i found... rusty looking, watery looking, gas giants are good because they scan from a greater distance and sometimes have amonia life... moons are pointless, i always steered clear of icy stuff too. 'Earth like' is the holy grail....

I took a spin around several nebulas 400-500Lys away. Now I'm into uncharted space. I-have-to-scan-them-all!

I know it's pointless but...but... it will show my name in a shiny sign :D

That is exactly why it takes me a long time to explore. :D

This is my Asp, I've been out nearly two months now and I'm nearing the core (about 2k lys to go)

It's doing a great job, I've no weapons but I do have a heat sink launcher.

Also kind of tinkering with going out at some point, I did take an asp on a couple short trips, even put my name on a brown dwarf I think.
But I just don't like the asp, it feels a bit to "tan-canny" to me, so if I go I'm now considering either a clipper or just holding off until I can go in an anaconda.

Considering I almost have 200 mil put together that might not be so far off, but I just don't like the idea of selling Donna.

Exploration isn't about the destination :P

Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

I actually use a Hauler. I have a clipper and a type 7 for other things but the Hauler does the job. Its light, cheap to kit out, the A3 fuel scoop fills the tank in seconds and I can just leave it in the garage for when the mood takes me, without having to rework any loadouts. If theres a downside its the tank size, you do occasionally have to go off route to find a fuelling star..... But the paint job makes up for it.

Glad I searched our board for "ASP" during the week and found this thread! :)

I'm taking my first exploration trip, starting today. I packed a bag with all of my favorite snacks, some "real" food, oh... yeah... and about 15 cases of beer. :P

I parked my Python at home (Dvorsi) and flew a Sidie down to Diaguandri to pick up an ASP at 15% off. Why not, right?

I knew from past experiences that Ray Gateway had great outfitting as well (and outfitting is 15% off, too) and I was hoping to get my new ship ready for the journey without hopping around to find modules.

Guess what.... yup, Ray Gateway had it all! :D

I picked up my ASP and got it completely setup the way I wanted it without even leaving the station.

I have to take care of some RL things this morning, but can't wait to head out for the great unknown later today!

I slightly changed mine, since I posted the profile. Here's my new version.

I was very happy to find this thread :D

... because, as soon as the 'pirate hunt' CG @ Bast is over, I'm planning to tootle over to Alioth to fit up an Asp & head on out into the Big Black for the very first time. (Every ship I've owned so far, I've sold even the default discovery scanner before she hit the black.)

I'm too much of a combat pilot to completely do without shields'n'gunz (I'm a fighter, not a runner ;) ) but seeing what others have had success with certainly makes my choices easier. Selling my trusty Cobra (what's the point in having a ship parked up somewhere you won't use it for a month?) should leave me around 32 mill to spend, which I hope is enuff for a good build.

I've already resigned from the Hudson faction, having decided that PP just doesn't suit my psyche at all
