Gamescon

Postby Etherin Nor » Sat Jul 18, 2015 12:08 am

So am I the only one at a bit of a loss when it comes to this gamescon announcement?

I mean they make it sound like something quite significant, but walking in ships is apparently a long way off, and planetary landings is "one day". There are other things, Thargoids spring to mind, or the passenger missions and associated kit. atmospheric flight and proximity flight with planetary surfaces....

I know the Elite community have a tendency to hype and speculate and i'm not trying to add to that... well actually I am.

personally id love to see some initial work towards close proximity planetary flying, I know theres no point in it on its own, and almost certainly still a long way off, but I'm not overly hyped about the passenger stuff, it sounds kinda interesting, but not all that exciting.

"It’s something we’ve be building to for a long time and something we can’t wait to reveal." (its not my typo)

it could be literally anything lets face it.

I wouldn't say I'm at a loss, more indifferent to the whole "super secret" hyperbole. Fdev's previous PR hype and subsequent disappointment has jaded my expectations.

I've read something about them giving the opportunity for players to contribute to missinos/GALNET news'n'stuff like that. I bet that's the thing they'll announce. Other than that - I have no clue :)

Any developer tends to hype their next upcoming feature to ridiculous proportions.
And its getting to be an industry wide nuisance , almost as annoying as alarm salesmen, or those guys trying to stop you in shopping malls to sell another pointless subscription.

Its another inherent fact from having to rely on new sales, I honestly cannot fathom why people are so against a paid subscription model, its the one financing plan where maintaining customers are more important than getting new customers.

Yea ill be honest, power play was over hyped, or more specifically it was described in quite a loose way, and so its eventual simplicity was a let down, but I do think they have learnt from that, so I'm interested to see what they have to say on this one.

Subscription models have their place, but I for one would have cancelled mine by now if E : D used that model. I don't mind paying for something that works, but E : D is little more than beta quality right now with many parts of the game in a broken or reduced functionality state.

All this talk of adding more stuff is infuriating as it takes developer focus off the much needed effort on fixing the core game.

Bulletin Boards - Don't work properly

Influence changes and general bg sim - Doesn't work properly

Power Play - Over-hyped, under delivered, poorly designed and implemented, broke after a month.

I probably would still have a subscription but I agree with everything, this game is barely beta, and the differing features are so lacking in polish that it feels like one core game with a few minigames plopped in and sticked to the original board with duct tape.

Now if FD wasn't chasing headlines to make new people buy it on steam or xbx. they would see people leaving the subscription droves, see the fact that they would need FIX what is in the game already before they are left with untangle able broken mess not even die hard fans like myself would bother touching.

Good enough point, I could always just go whinge and throw my literary temper tantrums on FD'S forums, although they certainly aren't in a "whiner" shortage over there :D

Heck, only forum that doesn't seem to be dedicated to whining is the exploration sub forums and they are honestly just a hairpin drop away from starting.
