Sniger wrote:I have mainly been watching this whole debacle from the sideline, apart from a few posts on FD's forum. After lots of thought on the matter I have decided not to request refund for several reasons:
1. I have REALLY looked forward to this game, and I want to play it (even with reduced privacy and longevity).
2. Given the refund procedure, it would result in a legal battle that I simply do not have the strength fight, let alone win.
3. I have invested heavily in my ability to play ED, including both PC upgrades, hotas (X55), furniture, and some other bits - a big portion of which will be pointless otherwise - and all this on a very low income (spent about a years savings..)
4. I have had a very rough summer regarding my personal life, and have been looking forward to ED as a momentary escape from some horrible memories.

so... I concluded that having to deal with online was the lesser of evils, and as I have a 60/60 fibre connection that should at least not be a problem in my end connectionwise.
Chances are I will spend a fair bit of my time in solo mode simply because of my mood, but in my more positive moments, I WILL scoot around among the stars flying the Mobius colors ;)

Fly safe, and shoot straight, Commanders...

If you want to use your equipment not only for Elite and want some alternative to just relax and have fun flying, I would recommend to have a look at DCS World! Currently the best military flightsim available apart from military grade simulators.
It is free to download, comes with a SU-25T ground attack plane (comtrols on a similar level as E: D) and a TF-51D basically a P-51D without the guns. The later has a full 'clickable' cockpit, as in every switch and system modeled...
That is for no additional cost or microtransactions etc.
If you like what you get there are lots of other aircrafts purchasable, from the A-10C, F-15C, UH-1D (helicopter), to SU-27 and the upcoming T1.a Hawk and Eurofighter Typhoon from VEAO... on the WW II range is the FW-190D available, the Messerschmidt BF-109K inbound for release and lots of other birds coming in the next years.
EDIT ...oh I forgot, Spitfire mk IX is in develoment of course.

If interested just PM me, I can give you some tips, especially before buying a module, there are attractive sales every now and then...

I hope FD will make Elite happen properly, and does not f...k it up, but if you need a break and want to try your rig on something else DigitalCombatSimulator is definitely worth a shot.

So I think I am in the acceptance stage of the grief cycle now. I'm done with all the anger and I've accepted that we aren't getting an offline mode. It doesn't affect me, I have slowish but reliable broadband and I've always been able to play alright. I am pissed off for all those who really wanted an offline mode and I really hope they do either get a refund as I really can't see an off-line mode being available (unless someone clever hacks the game.....).

Edit: The servers have been offline for 30 minutes now. I expect a full meltdown on the forums shortly!

It will effect all of us if they decide to implement a subscription model because they say they can't afford to keep them going.

I pray they do not do that within the first two years after planetary landings so i can feel i get my moneys worth.

The decision means I will only be around until mid to late January. I'm leaving the flat then and moving into my mother in laws while we wait for our house to be built.

The house won't be ready until August, and then it will probably take a good month or two before getting broadband available or installed (new build).

So yeah, peeved me off bigtime considering it was always going to be in the final version, according to multiple interviews etc.

At least 9 months out will give me a chance to complete Dragon Age Inquisition, and probably a good amount of my xbox library...

There is a petition thing about the offline mode, doesn't have too many signatures at the moment but I think it's lost in the mire of the offline threads on the Frontier forums.....

Did somebody just mention subscription?

It sent a shiver down my spine!
