As for convergence on the FDL, I use all gimballed guns, could be my lack of pilot skill but even with those guns I often have to move to the left or right slightly to get both sides to fire, especially with the lower medium hard points. Additionally, using the huge requires tipping the nose up some which makes it hard for the top hardpoints to fire... I put the beams on the top since I use them during my warrant scan, then when I melt the shields switch groups to the multicannons on primary and the PA on secondary. Multicannons are on the lower hardpoints so when I tip the nose to fire the PA the distance I need to travel is less.

Not sure if that answers that question, if not let me know.

That is a fantastic rundown of FDL convergence, thank you Stummies.

You can host them on any image site that will allow you to link an image to a URL, and then send those URL's to me in a private message :D.

Also: Are there any Cobra pilots that wouldn't mind telling me how you feel your ship fares with hardpoint placement? It's been too long since I've flown one, and I'm not sure I trust my opinions. Do you have any trouble using fixed weapons? Are the hardpoints on the underside spaced further out from center mass than the hardpoints on the top/nose? Essentially, do you find yourself having to adjust your piloting style a noticeable amount because of where your weapons are firing from? Is this inconvenient?

It's been a while with the Cobra but if I remember right both side to side and top/bottom were issues with this ship. Too far to any side caused some of the guns not to fire. Hardpoints on the bottom are spaced further apart, I'd imagine fixed would be a challenge though I never used fixed on it.

Personally I ended up going back to the Viper because of these issues as well as overall cost for essentially the same DPS.

Asp added, and I've got pictures of the Anaconda to put up as well, I just haven't made the time to do so.

Thanks to all those who are contributing, with pictures, labels, and information. :D

Also, Stummies, as someone who's recently switched from FDL to Python, do you have any insights on how the firing arcs compare on both ships? This seems to be one of the sticking point for those considering investing in either Fer de Lance or Python, and methinks you could have some great insights in that regard.

Firing arcs for the Python feel easier to manage than the FDL. When a ship is making a pass, I can continue to shoot them almost up to the top of the screen before the guns return to null. So far I haven't had any issues with guns not firing because of angle. The FDL had a wicked problem with side to side fire, and since the cockpit view has an off center bar it's hard to judge what center is... so you end up often firing only from one side or the other. The Python also doesn't turn too slow and has a decent speed with a good thruster and power dist as long as you're good at using thrusters manually with FA off (which I had to get better at with the FDL). Honestly the python is an much easier ship to handle, and while more expensive doesn't really sacrifice much PvE wise (actually it adds perks like cargo space, no power issues, etc).

Last night my metaphor was "Flying the FDL feels like a manual transmission in traffic sometimes", and I feel this fits rather well. Fun to drive, but can become tiresome at times.

The bar issue on the FDL really does cause issues, I hadn't realize how much until I sold it for the Python and realized how easy my eyes settled on what was center... on the FDL I had to think about it.

I suspect that the Vulture is my next purchase (currently running an Asp). I was surprised to see that it only (?) has 2 large hardpoints. Presumably all the love that the Vulture seems to enjoy means this is not an issue?
Any owners care to respond?

No Issue what so ever!

It is a Killing Machine.
Its ugly like a Vulture is.
But!
You WILL Pick the Bones of any ship you come across.
You WILL learn Power Management and Module Priorities.
You WILL watch Vipers run away and feel her shake like a rabid dog when you try to Boost after it.
You WILL live to hate a wing of Eagles as you spin and spin trying to swat them, but you WILL swat them like hitting a fly with a sledgehammer. You WILL learn to use your lateral/vertical thrusters.
You Will learn how important Forward/Reverse Thrusters are.

AND when you boost up on an Anaconda and ride its back like a professional rodeo rider till you turn it into space dust while it bucks and snarls and spits all its guns at you, and you shrug it off the way you swipe dust off your shoulder...

You WILL learn that Smug Swagger look that every other Vulture Pilot has.

Because its a tank, it allowed me to learn how to fly an agile bird with lower risk. I learned a LOT about thrusters because of it. And it made me MILLIONS. I just sold mine, not because It was not for me, I love that ship. I Sold it to lean out my fleet to make it easier to move when Power Play hits. Once that has settled, I will get another one. That is a given.
