My Asp is my exploration vessel, have a Python for combat/trading/bounty hunting. I also have a Cobra, Viper, Eagle and Sidewinder. Eventually I want to upgrade my Asp to an Anaconda - the Asp is a fine exploration vessel but I hate being in its greenhouse on the front, makes me feel claustrophobic! Want the Conda to feel more at home out in the deep black :D

I think each ship has its purpose, and even multi-role ships are better at one than another. It is called and Asp Explorer. It is very good at exploring, good at trading, and an ok ship for fighting. Just OK. A ship that is dedicated will always chew it up.

The Vulture is the best pure fighter. It has the mobility of an eagle, good shields, but can be outrun by just about everything. I love my vulture, it can take on anything except a wing that has smaller faster fighters and a heavy hitter. Only ever had to big out on an Anaconda when it was winged with 2 Cobras, vipers, or worse, something bigger. Eagles are a pain, like being pestered by Mosquitos. If you go up against Two other vultures or FDL's your are going to have a hard time.

The cobra and the clipper can just run if they get in trouble. But they are very good multi-role ships and give up less on the fight side. Full wings of eagles are scary as hell. Couriers may not hit hard, but best shields in the game.

It all depends on how you fly.

Could just be bad luck, cz's can be a little weird.
I was in one the other a low intensity one as a matter of fact happily going at it for a while to the tune of 600k in bonds. Then suddenly I'm either out of green for support or the Ai just goes bananas.
But suddenly ALL the reds in the cz start going after me.
Not particularly fun, even in a mostly a rated python, I managed to get the hell out, but just barely since those buggers where both keeping up with my speed and mass locking me.

Also keep in mind what level an no is the that really seem to matter now.
A competent python or conda is basically a pushover, masters not so bad.

Deadly and above I am in for an often bitter fight and you will need shield cells and/or some time to recover if they are in the same or higher ship class than you.

There will be more of these highly ranked ships in a high intensity cz but they are also definitely in the low ones.

In fact the low and the high are so similar I would have a hard time picking one from the other if I'm not looking at the navigation marker.

My Asp is the only ship I have......Suits my play style.....

Does me OK, just poodling around doing a bit of everything.....

You have to fly it a bit and get used to the handling and get to know it's limitations...But after that it's fine....

I'm gonna keep it until (in my opinion) something better comes along.....

Which might not be that far away......

I've had my cobra ever since I got my first half a million. It's the best all-round ship currently available taking the outfitting cost into consideration.

Basically for 1.5-2mil you can have a decent smuggling/trading/semi-fighting build. I would imagine the ASP being a better fighter if fitted properly due to way more firepower, but it's bigger, and as said before - NPCs will land a lot more hits on you.

Currently I'm exploring in an ASP but I will refit it for combat once I get back just to try it out. Usually when it comes to RES hunting - there's nothing better than the Python. Amazing ship, and I'm never selling mine!

Yea the Python WAS on my list as the ship to get after I've flown it in the betas.......

But I simply do not play enough to get the money to do it justice and I refuse to become a slave to the grind.....

I get bored too quickly...That's why I like the Asp....Can just flit off at a moments notice and do something else...

Only reason why I didn't use my Asp for combat is simply from the fact that I already had a vulture for that job, and the Asp was bought to replace my then T6 trader and test exploration (took it to barnards loop and back).

As a ship in general in combat, I keep thinking of it as a rather cheap FDL, probably a little bit slower, and less tanky but I think the difference might actually be smaller than you would think.

Just change from cargo racks, to shield cell banks and bulkheads when going into a conflict zone and it should do more than just hold it's own :)
