You know, since I smuggle a lot, and have found that silent running is almost worthless (I know it does something, but the effect is utterly negligible, and not worth losing shields), so I usually blast toward the mailslot on afterburners, and only slow down to the top of the blue range for last-minute alignment. This has gotten me a LOT less fines than silent running, and probably made me a slightly better pilot.
So I have to say that this leaves me wondering how to handle a paint-swapping in the mail slot. I wouldn't mind if there were some token compensation for such things (like 400-1000cr, or more if there's serious damage), but there isn't a great system for doing so. I can't spare the internals for transfer limpets, though that would be an interesting dynamic from a gameplay perspective (aside from the fact that one of you has a docking reservation, and the other needs to get out of there.) However, in the year 3000+, you'd think a simple credit transfer between pilots would be possible. Hell, an MMO marketplace would be nice. I played SWTOR for a bit, and I found the cartel market there to be very useful. A commodities market between players would make a ton of sense in the Elite setting.
Having said that, I'd much prefer to walk around my ship and stations first, so if anyone from Frontier is lurking in here, keep that in mind.
