If you do, just jump out straight away, move round the ring a bit, and drop back in.

Thanks, it is exactly what I usually do, my mistake was that I didn't insta-jumped out when I saw npc ships there.

As for the Python being slightly nerfed, I wouldn't know, got it only after the 1.5 patch/ Horizons was released.

I don't notice anything different with my python since 2.0, but I'm using light weight hull.
Maybe they changed how much impact hull types has ?
I personally prefer relying on shields since heavier plating and modules etc does effect manouverability, even scb banks and fuel tanks makes a difference.

Rule 1: Pillage. Then burn.
Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

I have not tried Python after Horizons either due to save wipe, but when I flew Cobra III it felt much heavier than I remembered. Maybe there has been some changes to ships.. Or then I'm just imagining things :)
I play on PC, in the Mobius PVE Eurasia group.

You are flying backwards of course?

Backwards? I did try, not sure it makes any difference. Is there any guide on how to do this? Not that I'll be doing much combat any time soon in this ship.

See the Python as a tank. A ship this size will never be able to compete with smaller vessels when it comes to turn radius.

Attacking ships will always come to you (unless they are running away). Flying backwards while firing improves your chances of keeping them in your sights immensely.

Use thrusters to break their lock if necessary. Or boost. Chaff and shield cells when necessary. Note that you also have a blue zone when flying backwards.

I use pulse turrets on mine. Flying backwards means I just have to keep enemies in my sights (which is easy) to enjoy the fireworks.

Be wary that enemy npc skills have increased alot recently. No one is safe. :)

Thanks for the mini guide. It's too bad there isn't some kind of practise mode in Elite to try this technique for myself. Hmm, unless I try it with the sidewinder in the training scenarios.

This is a good idea. You will notice that staying on target will become much easier. :) But note that it isn't necessarily a very good tactic for a Sidewinder. ;)

The Python is one of the best ships in the game, if not the best. You don't need to A-rate your Python; I don't and I kill any NPC from Anaconda on down without a problem every single day.

Your thrusters are very important, however. You don't have to get the best of the best, but get thrusters that will give you more mass to play with. Can't remember off the top of my head but they should cost about 5 million. I'd say this is your most important asset on the Python for fighting.

I'll be honest with you: Elite: Dangerous is the easiest "simulator" game I've ever played. It's not a simulator. It's not even close to a simulator. This game is to simulators what rock, paper, scissors is to a video game. ED is downright simplistic. It's beautiful and huge, but it's simplistic. Stop trying to overthink Elite...you don't have to, ESPECIALLY since you're playing only in PvE. Stop raging about how you don't need a NASA pilot's degree and THINK for a second. Use your head, it's just basic physics.

Sure, there are ships that can out-turn you, but so what? You say you've been using FA off, but have you used reverse thrusters and FA off? What about reverse thrusters with FA on? Do you know what happens when you're in a turning fight in reverse thrusters? Your target gets smaller and easier to target because it gets further and further away from you each second.

Also, an FAS is one of the deadliest ships in the game. It has massive firepower for its class and has a huge tank. A Python is easier to take down than an FAS.

I A-rate about 3 modules on my bounty hunting Python...everything else? I make it work. SO MAKE IT WORK. A-rating your ships in PvE is like having an instant-win button. Quite frankly, people who are A-rating their ships before they fly them are just bad pilots. We all want an A-rated ship, but waiting until you have 200 million credits before buying a Python because you're afraid the big meanie PvE pirates may blow it up completely negates any fun you may have in the game. LEARN YOUR SHIP. Don't listen to people who tell you that you have to grind up hundreds of millions of credits before getting the ship (for PvE, no less!) because those people are just crappy pilots who need to make up for their lack of skill with the best modules.

Build your ship as you go. Learn it. Feel it. Fly it every chance you get. It's friggin' PvE, for heaven's sake...it's like punching a baby in the face in this game. If you're not comfortable with big prey, kill the smaller ships until you get a feel for your ship. Once you do, you'll be unstoppable in a Python.

Wow. Why write a whole wall, when you could just write: You're pathetic.

I think your post is sad and condescending. What are you contributing?
