I’m new here, not on TS yet, and can’t speak to this person’s experience. In general, however, though I find abuse of people reprehensible, I have never actually heard women (or any other group) being actually abused in any game speak or chat and I have played a lot of MMOs where the local chat is filled with all manner of vile things being said to people. As ugly as the talk gets though it has always, as far as I can recall, been directed at individuals and almost always over politics which you are essentially asking for if you drag that into a place where people are just socializing and having fun playing a video game. I have strong political views, some of them quite radical, but I don’t inflict them on strangers for no reason.
I honestly think this is a non-issue in games and that the people pushing this as an out of control problem are making it up out of whole cloth to say nothing of rarely being players themselves as we saw from the “gamergate” fiasco. It also must be said that there are a lot of radical SJWs out there who look to take offense at anything they can and will characterize anything they don’t care for as “hate speech.”
I am not questioning the OP’s veracity or anything like that, wasn’t there and don’t know what was said, I am just saying that from my extensive experience playing these kind of games it was likely an isolated incident. If something truly awful was said then by all means report it, but if it’s worth bringing up here for discussion I think it’s only proper to give some kind of indication of WHAT was said if this is to be taken seriously—especially if the entire environment is accused of being rife with this behavior as the title certainly implies.
