The most exciting part was getting into the station with the stolen stuff the Navy wanted for the ranking missions. Did that three times without getting scanned. Wasn't that hard in a Cobra mk3. Wiki told me that stolen stuff gives me wanted status if scanned so I assume the cops would have opened fire on me.

How long did it take?
I'm currently a Warrant Officer and am trying to rank up. But I wanted to earn money while doing it. Was at 17 Draconis (that's where I got the WO rank, although the rank mission they gave me was bugged,) but didn't hang around. I tend to find sitting at stations a bit boring. But ranking the other way is turning out to be long and tedious.

Admiral took me around 1-2 weeks, IIRR. But that was pre-1.5/Horizons. 17 Draconis was nuts. Getting 80 charity missions alone per hour. Not including smuggling or anything else.

Got ballsy and went to a Haz instead of a High. I pulled some kind of super instance where it was wings of 3-5 fighting each other all large and medium ships. Was fun wiping out what felt like fleets of ships that were partially wounded. In all I made 10 mill, used only 3 charges from my SCBs, and brought ammo home because you don't need a PA or Multi's when you are mercy killing. I think High Res still makes more money per hour, but Haz is a blast if you have a ship that can handle when 3 clippers suddenly turn on you.

I will give them another try (2xC3 Bursts 1 C3 Turetted pulse and the 4 multicannons) tomorrrow

I switched to 3 large gimballed beams, and gimballed multi-cannons on the med and small hardpoints. I'm liking it so far, but I still think that 7 gimballed pulse has the fastest kill rate. If you are working the CZ, all pulse is the way to go, IMO. In RES, beams and multi's are just plain fun. :D

But ranking the other way is turning out to be long and tedious.

I went in the 7th day and was done at the end of 10th day. Few hours a day, except for one day when I decided that I had neglected my TV watching duty for far too long and spent most of that day on a sofa. :) But I did do a few missions at the end of the day.
The ranking can be done faster than I did, but I was not in too much of a hurry.

But if you are looking to earn money while gaining rank, 17 Draconis might not the be the place. Unless you spend more time and do the courier missions which will bring in some credits. Downside is that these missions will require travelling back and forth to the bubble and have a 0.5-4h time limit. For me they would have paid 100k to 600k credits per mission. Sometimes there are smuggling missions that reward in millions but there is that long travel and time limit again. I did only donates and spent around 8 million credits in total.

And you are right about it being boring, once I almost gave up but then decided to go on the next day. But.. now it is done and I can start playing the game again. :) I'll get the last two ranks the traditional way.

A couple of alternatives I've seen on this forum:
- Taribes. This is not isolated like 17 Draconis so might be less boring.
- "Tun's Wart in the Tun system always has good ranking missions, including frequent charity missions"
I don't know the current state of either of these.

Beams create too much heat and consume too much power that is why I don't like them. Also you need to be close to be effective while pulses are better in long range.

I used to have only pulses which is fine in RES but in CZ it takes too much time to kill the hull so I am trying different loadouts now.
I do not like kinetic weapons but I can live with the Multicannons. I will try once more the burst one and see.

I didn't bother doing the rank missions at draconis, I just went there in a hauler and when i got a rank up I hopped back to my moer competent python, the taxi hauler makes the trip in less than 10 minutes anyways.
And you get more and simpler rank up missions in the bubble.

I did most rank ups as either courier missions with an assassination thrown in for good measure :p

I would not do Draconis again either. It is just way too boring. Once I get Alliance to allied, I get to work with the Empire ranks, and plan to do that the intended way and not by sitting in the station. Well at least I have now "experienced" the Draconis ranking system. :D
