Sad part is I had one. I always have one on everything.

I mean I have to turn it and the cargo hatch on the Vulture off just to run, because my loadouts are me grabbing the best everything I can, and then as I play figuring out what works and what doesn't, pulling what I need to, only I didn't get to step two this time. I have power issues and I'm still only running 2 3E Gimballed Pulse Lasers. Which I think is a mistake, but I'm used to at least some MultiCannons, and there don't seem to be any 3 MultiCannons. Yet. I think I read they might be coming. And I've never had any luck with regular cannons. (My current Vulture loadout, I think this link should work, though as I said it needs work as so far all I did was dump money into it.)

But yeah, brought a scoop, just forgot my brain. Ended up in a system with three unscoopable stars and didn't realize I was stuck until I told me I couldn't make the next jump. I was actually on my way back to Azrael to dump my Cobra, because even though I love it, I'm finally doing better in the Asp in RES's. At first I was getting worked in the Asp and even though I had it decked out, I would still jump back to my Cobra for RES farming. Now that I'm better off in the Asp in a RES, there isn't any reason to keep the cobra (aside from love) since the asp does everything else better too.

That's pretty similar to my Vulture actually, she served me well for quite a while, I made about 1.5M in the CG RES in my first real fight. Linky

I sold her last weekend and went through a couple of trading ships during the week before I got my hands on a Clipper today. When I get the money I'll almost certainly set up another Vulture until I can trade it in for a FDL. Shame it won't be anytime soon, the current CG is only 2 jumps from my home system (HIP 106213).

Hrmm, I'm surprised, I would have thought the pulse lasers would have been an issue in combat, power I mean. I really only went with them because I didn't see anything else I was comfortable using. I usually go with half lasers for shield stripping and then multis for hull. So when I start draining my power with the lasers I can switch to the multis and heat up a bit instead, while trying to get some power back. I mean versus an NPC conda or python or something, since neither are issues versus most smaller ships.

But yeah, I saw some other builds that used them, and figured I'd give them a shot until I got the stones to try something fixed.

Or until class 3 multis come out, which I hope I read somewhere legit and wasn't imagining, because BRRRRRRRRT.

It takes a while to run down to no power with 4 pips to weapons. Then you just slow down and tap the attack button every second or so instead of holding it until it builds up a bit. If you target the power plants on bigger ships you should be able to take them down before the shields regen. I'm not that great at combat so I'm sure there are much better builds to go with, but I made this one work just fine.

You didn't imagine it, class 3 and class 4 are coming with 1.6/2.1, along with class 4 pulses

Given the Viper is maneuverable, I'd stick with gimballed. You can still get your target in your sights, and you'll get more damage for less power. Turreted weapons will auto-fire when they can hit the target, and with lasers in a Viper, you're going to drain your power plant more.

I only use Turreted weapons on my pig of a Federal Drop Ship, and only on 1 in each of the side mounts, everything else is gimballed. In a Viper, Vulture and other combat ships, I never used them, especially not with their constrained power plants. YMMV

Your loadout looks pretty darn good. Why do you have a docking computer, might I ask? I run one on my Vette and Cutter, but never used one on something as small as a Vulture. The bulkheads are costing you some maneuverability, but if you're not a shields guy (like me) then it's probably a good idea to have them.

My good ol' trusty Vulture setup is here, if you want to take a look.

I can't wait <drool> . It's going to change weapons loadouts on many many ships. Fun, fun, fun!

I run the docking computer whenever I have room, mostly for nostalgia, blue danube <3, I'll only pull it off when I'm putting something specific in that spot. Like my cobra build I had the docking computer and the vehicle hanger (unpowered) even when I wasn't planning on doing anything with an SRV, I'd only pull them if I was slapping something like armor or extra cargo rack in their slot, and when I was done I'd put them right back. Empty slots irk me too. I wish there was something I could slap in that empty utility slot on my vulture without making my power/range issues even worse, no matter what it was.

Sometimes (when a station isn't busy) I use it to do other things, set my next course in the galaxy map, check a trading site to find out what I should be picking up to fill the empty slots (which don't have rares in them) to deliver at the next stop, etc., when a station is busy I usually don't trust it until the very end, at which point I'll send friend requests to everyone nearby who I don't have added yet. Crap like that.

Honestly though, if it wasn't for the docking computer I'd be much worse at landings. Learning to land smoothly without it kicking in helped me learn how to land in a non-"who's that moron and why is he flying like that" manner, and not take forever doing it.

Though admittedly, there are times when I'm smuggling something into an empty (in terms of other players) station, come in way too hot, and overshoot like crazy. In cases like that I don't mind it backing up a bit for me, as compared to me flipping around and then having to flip again, when that happens I just don't fight it. I also admit that I use it like half the time at outposts just because I'm lazy. I have more trouble finding the pad and figuring out which way is forward than the actual landing. I can't count how many times I've been set up perfectly, aside from being backwards. :p

Again though, seeing how it lands at outposts made me start doing it that way whenever I can be bothered, though I always seem to be a bit to the left or right.

I also use DC only on big ships, with the small ones I like to go in to the station full blast, and do a last second handbrake turn. Stupid but fun :)
I play on PC, in the Mobius PVE Eurasia group.

I never want to waste the space, which I'll use for something else.

I've learned to dock my FDS without much issue, and plan to do the same with a Python that is a little more graceful. In fact, I've gotten pretty good at taking that ungraceful fat boy and bringing it down on the pad just at the right speed and decent, using down'n forward inertia while I use the side thrusters and reverse if it looks like I'm going to overshoot.

Although I've gotta now ask ...

Who else where drops their landing gear when they get within 500m of the station entrance? I've always use that simple technique to great effect, while it also has the nice side effect of preventing me form ever, accidentally boosting with the afterburner.
