Taking a "possibly" long break from Elite. I'm not particularly happy with the balancing with the new patch. Also left the Facebook group mainly because I started to see "Git Gud" posts, which I feel aren't helpful in the slightest. I know no-one should care what I do, but I like the community here and wish them the best. Have fun guys, enjoy your game. Peace out.

Thanks for the offer. I'm currently planning a slow meander to the core, which I haven't visited yet. May take a side trip to the great attractor, and maybe if I haven't bitten off both my legs from space madness a jaunt to Beagle Point. Grandiose plans I know but doable if I have the patience.

Paying 5.1M for Python insurance ... sigh, my first big claim ever!

Wing'd up and we had just knocked off a 'Conda and then a Python. As my wingmate headed off to find new targets, with the RES now seemingly quiet, I farted off a couple of collector limpets to grab up the debris. I'm well away from any mining going on, and I had collected almost 100 components in the preceding hour or so without issue. I had already bagged 1.25M to make it into the top 25%, and had another 600K+ racked up, figuring 2M will probably keep me in the top 25% 'til the end.

Then, suddenly, 3 ... and then 4, red contacts are firing on me. By the time I got the scoop up and fired the boost, my shields were already down. I started running, but it was no use ... 73% ... 27% ... 9% ... BOOM! I'm like, "WTF?" Even my wingmate was like, "You were just there! WTF happened?!"

Never had that happen before! Full shields to dead in less than 10 seconds. I mean, I barely got a couple of boosts in ... and it was over. Chaff did nothing. I totally got jumped like I had never seen before ... ever!

Now I need that 10M+ for a top 25% finish to cover that insurance.

Similar story, but in a combat zone. At least I didn't loose the ship, but it was close.

CZ's are a handful. I tried a "low" intensity yesterday with my Anaconda, not CZ oriented but still with 7a SG + 5 A Shield Boosters, no armour. From the moment I chose sides to the moment I low-jumped with 23% hull remaining 10-15 seconds have passed. I couldn't tell what ships were hitting me, there were four of them and my target was a Master Viper. Repair cost: a whooping +800.000!!!

I wanted to try a second time after repairs, but the CZ's had vanished!!

I did come back later, in an Imperial Eagle A-spec with military armor. I fared a lot better, to the point I got cocky and tried to scoop some data from a kill (deadly Viper who went down rather quickly) ... and died.

A lot of inconsistency again. As said the deadly Viper fell easily in one-two minutes and it was a solo-kill at the edge of the zone. I was fighting (and losing) an Expert Asp Ex for the better part of 15 minutes and I got the kill because at that point there were a bunch of Greens shooting his ass too.

I am currently trying to figure a decent way to level up my federation rank towards my end goal of attaining a Vette. The problem is I have no real idea how to level up my rank with the faction. Any help or reference would be greatly appreciated.

just do missions from federation aligned factions (have the federation icon)
after wnough missions your rank will reach 100% on the status screen, then you will find the "promotion opportunity" missions, those come in all types( delivery, trading, smuggling, etc ).
Completing that mission will make you go to the next rank, rinse and repeat.
As you rank goes up you get benefits, like access to sol system, and be able to buy the fed ships, the dropship, the attack ship, the gunship and the corvette, in that order

You used to be able to go out to 17 Draconis and just throw money at the charity missions, but this may well have been removed with the update.

Basically just keep running mission for federation minor factions.

So I've got me some huge weapons, met the first four engineers, applied a mod (enhanced, low power) to a shield generator (can't quite fathom out whether it mad it stronger or just weaker but drawing less power), collected loads of scans and materials (but not the ones I need), bought a DBX to get around the engineers quickly and safely (don't want to reconfigure the Asp), ran a load of missions for the Order, did some RES bounty hunting, been in and out of loads of signal sources, and ran away a lot.

Not sure what to do now, feeling a little directionless
