Cobra Outfitting

So I need some help/advice on my Cobra outfit, I'm aiming for a combat capable ship that's able to do some exploring (to which end I'll probably replace a Cargo Hold with a Fuel Scoop). How it is currently is below.

I'm looking for A/B4 Shields and Thrusters if anybody can direct me to somewhere I can buy them (near Ovid prefered).

I've also noticed that my ship overheats quickly in combat when I use my Beam Lasers, now this is to be expected, and I'm wondering if I should sacrifice my Point Defence Turret for a Heat Sink Launcher so that I can quickly cool my ship down. What do you guys think?

[Cobra Mk III]
M: 2D/G Beam Laser
M: 2D/G Beam Laser
S: 1G/G Multi-cannon
S: 1G/G Multi-cannon
U: 0I Chaff Launcher
U: 0I Point Defence

BH: 1I Military Grade Composite
RB: 4A Power Plant
TM: 4E Thrusters
FH: 4B Frame Shift Drive
EC: 3D Life Support
PC: 3A Power Distributor
SS: 3A Sensors
FS: 4C Fuel Tank (Capacity: 16)

4: 4E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 16)
4: 4E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 16)
4: 4E Shield Generator
2: 1E Cargo Rack (Capacity: 2)
2: 1E Standard Docking Computer
2: 1D Basic Discovery Scanner

Putting more pips into your weapons while using the lasers should help with the heating.

If you're doing combat, you might consider switching something out for shield cells.

Yep, or auto field-maintenance. I'd get both, myself, instead of the 2 tons cargo rack and the docking computer.

I would drop the point defence first and see does this allow you run the 2 beams (it should do), also have a look at power priorities and ensure u have cargo hatch and fsd, stuff like this on low priority so it does not draw power when you are fighting. If u need to use fsd u just retract weapons and get the hell outta there so power returns to fsd when weapons retracted. Drop the 2 ton cargo and discovery scanner for shield cell banks (essential for combat/BH) and a kill warrant scanner ( allows you to scan wanted ships for additional bounties in other systems) quite lucrative to scan before u kill. U could try dropping 1 of the beam lasers and add a pulse laser to reduce heat buildup, heat sink difficult to use in combat with weapons, flying and shield cell bank management. Just a few ideas.

I'm defiantly going to drop the Class 1 Cargo Rack for a shield cell bank, but as my focus is not going to be bounty hunting (just taking the assassination missions and such) I'm going to keep the Discovery Scanner.

Power isn't a problem for me, and I don't think that a class 4A Shield Generator and class 4A Thrusters will make it so. If it does I'll start thinking about changing my load out somewhat.

Heat management is my worry, the beam lasers don't cause my Cobra to overheat but it could be a problem in a perticulary long battle or if I use a lot of boost.

Thanks for your suggestions.

PS: Does anybody know where I could get a class 4A or B Shield Generator and Thrusters?

I run my beams and cannons the other way around. I run Class 2 multi-cannons and Class 1 Beams. This saves on power usage and still does the business. Hulls seem to be the hardest bit to take out, so wanted a bit more bit than the Class 1 can's provide. As shown by some Python kicking my butt today, just could not get his hull down fast enough. Also shows I am rubbish at killing stuff. :)

I would drop the docking computer and just do it manually, it is easy enough. And use a shield bank as others have said.

I got all my A class Cobra bits from Diso, Leesti and Ovid, Ovid provided the Powerplant and all the other bits came from the other two.

Arexe is another good location for kitting out the Cobra.

Cheers Telengo, that has been most helpful.

I've had trouble breaking down the hull of larger ships as well so I think I will mimic your weapons loadout and have Class 2G Multi-Cannons and Class 1G Beam Lasers.

As soon as I've scraped some more cash together I'll jump to Diso and Leesti for my missing components.

That's what I had on my Cobra as well. I'm now flying an Asp with 4x 1F/G Pulse Lasers and 2x 2F/G Multi-Cannons. I might try the fixed Multi-Cannons though as I only use these on larger targets at shorter range.
