I love space .... its big and it hurts your brain

There's been a couple of videos floating around the net about space and size...

I thought i'd pay a visit to our own local inter-stellar (almost) object...
Voyager 1 is 2.3M Ls from Sol
It puts things in perspective....
if we could set off from Earth today at the Speed of Light ....
It would take us 6 hours to reach Pluto - the last almost planet of our little back garden ......
From that point on ...... another (just over) 26 DAYS of NOTHING but empty space before we would get to Voyager 1 (which was launched in 1977) .... and at that point we're still technically still within our own solar system ...

I love space..... it just breaks your brain

Yes it is BIG and great that it's modeled so well in ED!

This was one of the main reasons why I wanted to play this game. The thought of being able to fly around such stars as Arcturus or Sirius, Celestial objects I've spent my entire life admiring from a distance still gives me goosebumps (even if it's only a simulated journey).

I had no idea that objects such as Voyager were modelled! That's awesome. :D

I think it's the only one, at that point. It was added as a surprise in gamma, IIRC.

It does indeed.... its 2.3m Ls from Sol as a unlisted target floating in space ... when you approach the drop point it becomes 'Ancient Probe'

When you're close it plays the gold-disc recording :)

Voyager 2's out there somewhere too

Just bare in mind to do a 2.3m Ls super-cruise costs about 25% hull integrity ... aka 300k + damage on an Asp's hull ... buy a cheap sidey or eagle to visit ... cheaper to do that
