A Commander in a RES

Hi, folks, I'm a newbie to the forum but not to the group. I've tended to be a bit out of the way doing exploration, trading when it was profitable and now some bounty hunting at RESs in various systems. I do occasionally see another player but I've not really worried about "rules" - I work on the principle that you don't fire on hollows - period.

So are there any circumstances where you can indeed fire on hollows (other than at conflict zones)?

I only ask because a CMDR has just swept in during my fight with an NPC adder at a RES, flown straight through my multicannon burst, stolen my bounty, turned on me, taken out my engines then left me to "die".

Does this forum have the same name-and-shame ban as the Frontier forum?

Not sure I can see the point in naming and shaming. But as I understand PvP is only allowed in conflict zones. If you were "killed" by a cmdr somewhere else, you should get a screen grab of the kill screen, and contact Mobius or moderators. I assume the cmdr in question would be banned from the group.

As he didn't kill you, you dont get the kill screen, so it would come down to your word against his. Glad I'm not Mobius or moderator...

Hello and welcome to the forum, Commander.

Sorry to read about your unfortunate encounter. There is no circumstances other than in conflict zones where PvP is allowed. But indeed, name-and-shame is forbidden here too. Instead, we ask that you PM an admin or a mod with that information (and preferably with a screenshot that proves your accusation) and the offender will be dealt with.

Yeah, I figured that might be a problem. I have a 60GB SSD lying around somewhere - might have to install it and use it as a dashcam. The whole point of joining Mobius was to have interaction with real people without the associated problems of the griefers, it's a shame to have to use CPU cycles and drive space to deal with situations that are supposed to happen elsewhere.

Luckily I was in a mid-spec viper. It's only about 150K to rebuy.

Thankfully, it's still pretty rare!

Yeah, even though this is a PVE group you will get those who take advantage of that. So it'll be difficult to moderate some times.

Spam F10(or whatever your screenshot key is) and get that license plate number!

There'll always be bad eggs. I have complete confidence in main man Mobius and the mod crew. :)

Cheers, Flip. Can't get a screenshot as he bailed after taking out the engines, so it is just my word against his. I'm not actually dead yet - but I will be when I log back in to E:D. I'll just have to just chalk this one up to experience.

Funny thing is, I knew he was there: My target started rubberbanding so I suspected that there was another player in my instance. Checked the scanner and he was behind me. Next thing I knew he was in front and red because he was in my trail of MC bullets. I tried to send a message, but as soon as he killed my target he opened up on me.

It's certainly going to make me get rid of my beam turrets. I don't think they were firing on him, but I wasn't paying attention by this point. There's not enough control of the things to be using them when there are other players around...

I think that a pre-recording capture program is the way to go. Spamming f10 only gets the guy's name. As GlobusDiablo said - it's my word against his. A screenshot doesn't really prove much if they don't actually kill you.

The screenshot doesn't have to show the commander's ship. Showing the commander's name in the contact tab of the left panel is enough, as it will also be marked in red in there, after he shot at you.

And of course, it will be your word against his, but if that commander is here to play that kind of game, chances are that his name will pop up again. And since all these reports are logged, he might not be banned after the first offense but he will eventually be.

Edit: So even if you don't have a screenshot, a report will still be useful.
