The Mobius Identity

I am getting concerned that the expected neutral and non-aligned nature of this forum/group is being slowly modified by a particular sub-group. A poll taken on this forum in the early-ish days had the majority of Mobius members saying they preferred a neutral status of the group as a whole. Also lets not forget that of the 7-8000 registered members of the E:D group approximately 25% are registered to this forum and even fewer are active.
What would happen if a sub-group claimed that all items in E:D space with a Mobius name belonged to that group, and that minor factions in these locations must be raised to be the dominant force, even to the point of becoming a Power?
Any interference by some other sub-group(s) would inevitably be robustly countered, with the strong possibility that PvP could not be avoided.
Would this eventually end with the Mobius name becoming synonymous with that major faction? Would a mention of the Mobius name in the threads, speaking of 'our systems' and 'our space', have only one meaning to members not aligned with the major faction: think Mobius - think a specific faction?
Granted:
1 All the Mobius named platforms and stations were originally designated to be within one major faction's space.
2 The mechanics of the game permit it.
But the members of Mobius Group have to ask themselves:
1 Is this a good thing that the Mobius name becomes synonymous with a major faction?
2 Is it happening already?
3 Is it important?
And most pertinent:
4 What is it doing to the perceptions that new and future players have of the Mobius Goup?

The "Mobius Identity" belongs to an individual and not to this group. As soon as FD allow groups to have a descriptive name, instead of a user's name, I'm sure that Mobius will change it.
Also, nothing leads to PVP, in this group, unless it is consensual and within the guidelines.

We already have several sub-groups within Mobius, backing different major and minor factions (Jaeger's, Federal Fighters, Blood Serpents, PCI, ...) and as far as I know it hasn't put any pressure on the group's main policy.
I agree with the OP that I see the Mobius private group as a PVE galaxy more than a faction in itself.
But that doesn't mean that a group of folks couldn't decide to form a sub-group within Mobius to pursue their own story.

^ This.
I think it's key that the Mobius group is not aligned to one faction or Power as a whole. It should be open to anyone who wants PvE, whether they are a brave and noble fighter of the Empire, an independent trader or a pathetic wastrel of the Federation

Just to add my tuppence worth to this, if you look at the whole game there seems to be a majority of players playing as or for the Empire. Now in this group it's probably the same (I myself play as an Imperial). However it's my understanding that the placement of the Mobius space stations etc was done by Frontier and it was basically pot luck if they were placed in Imperial, Federation or Alliance space. For me the group will remain much the same. Yes their might be Factions that rise (or fall!) but ultimately they will not be "Mobius" Factions they will be separate groups within the Mobius group. I also think that we need to see what Beta brings because what we are looking at is a really major change to the gameplay and I don't think we can accurately predict how it's going to work out.

My starting position in the game was in Federation space so I mostly stayed there in my early days, keeping my starting system as my base (Psi Tauri). However, I have now gone off wandering, I've sold my ships and gone off in my latest, a Vulture. I'm currently visiting Empire space, I thought I'd make the trip to Azrael to visit Mobius base camp. I still haven't decided on a long-term affiliation with any faction, I might review the options when power play comes along.

I never even considered the fact that Mobius was meant to be universally neutral .... i thought it was simply a framework environment that prohibited PvP
Clearly we have formed several sub-groups within the overall group and i don't see any reason why this is a problem ....
I'd expect there to be multiple sub-groups within the Mobius community covering all aspects of the game... like a trade guild, faction-specific .... maybe an RP-heavy group
For me, its just nice that we have a populated space with like-minded players (PvE) ... would be boring if every single cmdr in Mobius was compelled to be a single faction ...

Do you mean that he's the one behind all the cloak & dagger stuff currently plaguing the Empire?

It is not a problem until 1.3 comes out, then it may be. If Mobius (as a squadron) is unaligned and group members pursue different factions, then things may have to change. Specifically, Mobius members going head to head over the same objective for their faction. If there are arguments between Mobius members working opposite sides of a turf war, what side does the Guild take?
From what I have read, aligning with a faction/sub-faction can bring you benefits and rewards (1.3). I have also seen large squads break up into smaller factions, keeping the root name and adding something before or after the main name.
The only reason I bring this up (besides living it in a guild) is that 1.3 is going to beta testing this week.
