Got jumped by an NPC pirate about 20ls from the station. Throttled back to zero, but crashed out of SC immediately (no submission for some reason). Pirate just opened fire - lost my engines and from that point I was just a passenger as he took me apart.

There was so little warning that even if I'd been in a wing, I'd probably be just as dead.

Very irritating game mechanic. It's one thing if it's a CMDR trolling you, but when the NPCs do it to, it's just disheartening. I'm not going to get back in a heavy freighter if that's likely to happen just because in order to give yourself some hope of survival, you need to arm yourself with good turrets, big shields and a tough hull, all of which affect either or both of your jump range and cargo capacity. Ultimately, you make less per hour than in a little viper at a RES.

Wow, that sucks! The crash out of supercruise although you submitted to the interdiction is a bug, though. At least I remember reading something like that.
But probably didn't make a big difference anyway.
Yep, so much for Solo or Private is the "easy" mode.

Nah - I'm back in my vulture already. Had the T9 for 24 hours. Like I said, it was so quick, a wingman wouldn't have arrived in time to help.

I'd just maxed out Empire rank, already done it with the feds, and allied to all three factions. Thought I'd have a go at improving trader status for a change of pace. I think I'll just do it later in the clipper. It might take five times longer, but at least I can defend myself.

Can't really tell - I'd have been able to jump out a lot sooner. Whether I'd still have had the capacity is another matter.

Just noticed that in the system where I was attacked, a minor faction is unfriendly. Maybe that's why I got attacked without warning.

I'm out on the edge of imperial space (Ngalites) and it's time for me to move on (two unfriendly minor factions now).

Been RES farming for 3½ hours and earned back 12 million. The plan was to keep going 'til all three shield cells had been used, but a convenient mix of ships meant that each time I got down to the last ring, I could be back up to a partial charge on the third before my next 'conda arrived. I used two cells in the first hour, which tied in nicely with when I was planning to go to bed. Then it took ages to use the third, so I've been up for much longer than expected.

I nearly came a cropper when two 'condas dropped in. I was down to one shield ring and decided to use my last cell before attacking the first. He had multi cannons, so I was still on two rings when he popped. I turned for the other guy and went through my usual pre-fight list (basic scan to make sure he's wanted, KWS, target power plant, 4 pips to weps 2 pips to shields) while maneouvring behind his engines. I let rip with the lasers and he turned really quickly, sooner than they usually do. His four beam turrets were suddenly landing hits. Too close to think about doing a runner, so I stuck at it. Our shields went down at the same time, but I was able to take him out after losing 26% hull. He was only worth 175 K.

I decided that I'd pushed my luck, and headed back to the station to cash in.

I'm so glad we can swear in here.

I take it your T9 didn't have shields. I think my paranoia about always having shields has saved me a couple times. I know the one time in my T7 days, I had really weak ones, some damn Eagle interdicted and somehow got through my shields and after I warped out, noticed my thrusters were down to 40%. I docked and upgraded my shields

About being chased from the RES...I have noticed in CZ's that you can be doing relatively fine for a while, say 20-25 min, then all hell breaks loose. Somehow, a Conda and 2 or 3 of his friends have appeared and focus only on you. They have magic weapons and their ships take about 10% damage. You now have to expend all 8 (two groups of 4) shield cells, chaff, and it does no good. I guess that's the game telling you its time to move on.
