Not quite sure how this happened

I was allied with both Fed and Empire......
I have only really been grinding lately between a fed station and an Empire one.....
Now I am allied to the respective local factions....BUT my overall rating has dropped from Allied to friendly.....
I can't really work out what I have done for this to happen.....
Mind you politics never was my strong point.....
Could it be I went from neutral to friendly with the Alliance that has lowered the other two ?
*Edit*
Bollocks.....
If I has realised this was my 1000th post I would have made it more interesting....

Congrats on your 1000th post
Were the factions you were allied with, allied to the weak and feeble federation and the Glorious and All Powerful Empire (

), or were they independent? If you don't do missions for allied minor factions your rep with the major factions drop to friendly (but only to friendly).
On an unrelated note I was forced to dispatch an NPC pretending to be you yesterday

It's the great reward called Reputation Decay. It happens every time you stop doing regular missions for aligned factions. I went from Allied to Empire to Friendly after a week in Fed space. It took 3 BB missions from an Empire faction to regain my Allied status.
I am planning a trip out in the deep black soon, I expect it to take 2-3 weeks or more. During that time I expect to come back to "Who are you?" It's funny but I have never done a single BB mission for the Alliance, I have traded a bit, but mostly turned in Bounties that showed up after a KWS. I have gotten friendly status and it has never decayed.
I don't understand the decay at all.

Well still not sure.......
Started tonight......Friendly with all major factions...No up or down arrows......
I was docked at an empire minor faction station which I was allied with.....
Went to the Missions....saw a donate one for the allied minor faction.....Thought why not.....
Done that......
Red down arrows appear on all major factions.....I can understand it with fed and alliance....But the fecking empire...who I am donating to no way.......
Anyway got pissed off with the only missions in local empire places being "Donate" missions.......So fecked orf somewhere else.....
Done a few trade missions....Mixed in with a few pirate kill missions...Mixed in with trading....and got back up to allied with the empire major faction......
So still not sure what's going on......

I've noticed that the arrows lag sometimes. I'll log on, and have no arrows. Then a few SC's and trades later, I see the red down arrows from rep decay while I was not playing. Then a few more Warps/SC and trades, and the red arrows go away and I get blue up arrows where they should be. My point is that they don't always show 'up to the second' status.
