Looking for advice on Monitor's

Hello and thanks for stopping in.

For those interested I currently own an LG 23 inch 2ms 60hz 1920x1080 LCD monitor. It does everything that I need it to do currently but I have been considering options for upgrading. I don't have any complaints currently on it.

But that being said I have been considering something in the 27 inch department. I have no real connection and understanding of the difference I would see with a LED format whether it be TN, VA, or IPS. I don't have a super budget here to work with. So as much as I might love to get that $1000 dollar monitor that would put me way out with what I can afford. At most I would be able to go for a $400 range.

Would I feel at a loss if I went with a TN? Would I want something better than a TN? I know that I like my current monitors performance. I don't know what sort of color loss I might "see" though.

All advice, suggestions and opinions are very much appreciated and taken with sincere gratitude. Thank you again for your time.

After having done a little more research. (Turned the monitor around and got the actual model number one LG W2361V-PFV) Some more searching and found that this model appears to use a TN panel. Although this is not LED back lit. This should mean that I shouldn't have an issue with going to a TN. So perhaps other aspects beyond just color should come into my considerations. Please still give input if you have any. Thank you!

i was in a similar situation, but instead of greater width i instead went for a higher refresh rate (120Hz) which is supposed to be less fatiguing for the eyes and also can run nVidia's 3D Vision stuff.

oddly enough, Afterburner reports that most games seem to run noticeably cooler at the new higher rate - go figure.

I have no problem with 60Hz, at least for E : D, but I'm not what you'd call a gamer. Anyway, I'd highly recommend going higher res: 2560x1440 (not sure about 4K performance). Those 78% more pixels really make a stunning visual display when playing E : D.

If you can go bigger, and are willing to wait for a sale, I can recommend the 32" Acer B326HUL that I got for $400 last November. It's been on sale again a few times since for the same price, and it's probably about due for another sale within a month or two (Amazon or Egghead). I've been buying computer parts for over 30 years and I never thought I'd buy an Acer monitor, but I couldn't be happier. Pair that with a TrackIR, and there is no need for a multi monitor setup (imho, of course).

-Cheers

Thank you both very much for the replies. I have continued to keep my mind open and would consider a 32 in the right price point.

I have even been looking at the ultra wide format monitors. I just wonder about some of the different games out there. Both older and newer not being able to utilize that real estate to justice. Linus tech tips has been of some help for me.

I got the 27" Acer G277HU QHD. Took a bit of time to get used to the bugger screen but now I am enjoying it
