Military Grade Composite

Postby UnmarkedBoxcar » Sat Sep 12, 2015 7:46 pm

I've never really thought this necessary given the strength of my shields.

Is anyone willing to try and talk me out of that mindset? Are there benefits that I'm unaware of? I mean...it's certainly a lot of armor... and it's not like I can't afford them. I just always thought I didn't need reinforced bulkheads on this ship.

Thoughts?

The armor grades are more or less like your systems pips but for your armor instead, hull tanking ships rely on this more than shield tanks of course.
The first armor above stock applies a 25%/25% resistance to kinetic/energy
Military applies 50%/50%
The next two: one applies 75%/25% resistance and the other is 25%/75%.
It really depends on you, if you have great shields and dont worry about going to hull then thats great i wouldnt worry about it and save yourself the cost, but on a ship that relies on hull strength like the fed dropship, i dont leave home without military armor plating.

Something to consider is that it reduces your jump range because of its weight.

That makes sense... so in my Python, my emphasis on shields makes sense...because the hull is average...

But when I get a Fed Assault or Gunship...which are just heavy thick ships...then the Military Grade seems to be a must...since their shields are very weak.

If you have the money, are willing to sacrifice a bit of jump range, and are in combat often then I see the armor as more reliable insurance than actual ship insurance.

I always made it a point to have military armor, in the beginning, when I it was normal to be taking on an elite npc anacondas while piloting my cobra and farming a RES. It is probably the sole reason why I limped away alive in said cobra on more than one occasion. As such, I have made it a point to use it on most of my ships.

I definitely used Military Grade Composite bulkheads on every ship up until the Python.

But because of how sturdy Red's shields are, they really never go down... so I didn't really see the need to, in this ship.

That and I'd rather use my 51mil somewhere else, thank you very much. :D

I'm planning on MGC bulkheads AND 2x 5D HRPs for my 'Ultimate' Python build - total cost 234 mill.

- only 86 mill to go (inc insurance & 'emergency money' ;) ) coming down at around 5 mill/hr thanks to a good ongoing cargo grind (thanks, EDDB) in an un-named T-9.

She's a friggin' cow to fly, but she does rack up the cash.

WOA for those taking the T-9 route for the 1st time - DO NOT BOTHER doing anything with the guns (unless it's mining lasers, of course) 'coz you'll never get a pirate in your sights. When interdicted, just RUN!

E2A - Has anybody ever reached Elite Trader status before dying of boredom?

I suppose symptoms include asking "but how much CARGO will the Federal Corvette hold?"

What size shield generator do you have? I must have the wrong one.
Pathfinder. Entrepeneur. Dangerous. Baron. Warrant Officer.
