Set out exploring after being inspired by quick google of "Largest known stars", starting at Betelgeuse, heading over to Canis M, making a stop down at Barnards(thanks johnluke for the suggestion!) and then heading over to Al Radif and VV Cephei! navigating through a seemingly endless field of brown dwarves, countless "Oh crap i need fuel" stops.
NGC 7822 was my final stop on this journey, and it's absolutely beautiful.. There's a crazy amount of stars per system (One system had around 10 other stars, albeit some are quite a distsance away) and also an abundance of black holes, some systems have 2 or 3 black holes that I’ve found up to now (For example, S171 9 has 3 black holes in a tight orbit that are around 600m years old)
I'd recommend that everyone goes to take a look at the supergiants, it is a shame that you drop in and they pretty much look like any other star, but you do realise the sheer size when you realise you're scooping at 2kls from it.
Has anyone been to NGC7822? I did find it a pain to get there initially and a high jump range is key, the systems out here are quite spread out and i think the easiest way to access is to come up from underneath it.
I'm currently working through all the systems there, would love some suggestions on where to head out? for example any other supergiants/nebulas.
