Flight assist off, the "newtonian" way

I was a big fan of Frontier: Elite 2 with it's "newtonian" flight model where you would slide around in space and could face any way you liked while traveling another direction completely without getting nerfed by magic limiters.
Elite: Dangerous has tried to accommodate this feature up until now with a flight assist off option. However, this option is now so nerfed that it has become a penalty rather than a skill level.
The argument to remove the flight assist off option completely from Elite: Dangerous and just play spitfires in space instead is becoming more and more obvious and outspoken.
This of course saddens me as the game loses some of its main appeal to me. But I know others disagree. What do you think?

Havent really used FA off much, but the stealth tactic and boosting away, did have some appeal I must admit. I am enjoying this game so much at the moment, Im happy either way

Word is they're going to go back to a system like the old way with Beta 3. Something in between what we have now and what it used to be.

Yeah, that's what I'd read. Sandro's propsosed changes seem to be (mostly) favourable to people which is a kind of half-way house between beta 1 and beta 2. Time will tell. Although, as Cristoff mentioned above, I rarely use FA-Off now the bleed off in speed has been re-introduced.

I was never convinced by having 2 flight models in the game and I kind of wish they had just picked on or the other. It was always going to be incredibly difficult to balance them so that neither gave a massive advantage over the other. I like FAoff and use it occasionally usually in combat or when I am zipping round a space station to get to the docking port. I hope they can balance it out so that both systems can be used.
