Cobra or ????

So the first ship I bought was the Cobra MK-III. I have primarily just been doing the Bulletin Board missions and the occasional trading and rare runs to mix it up a little. I haven't really done much to the Cobra other than upgrade all the cargo slots, FSD, and give it all D rated components.

I now have around 12mil credits, and am thinking I wouldn't mind trying out some combat (conflict zones and resource extraction sites). Is a upgraded Cobra capable of this and a decent ship to learn combat in, or would I be better off getting something else?

Thanks!!

Yes.

An 'A' spec combat 'bra is a lot of fun - you have JUST about enough money to get one. I consider my 'Cobra Days' to have been the most fun since I started playing, and it's one of only 3 ships I've thought it worthy of buying a paint-job for.

My only advice - Don't bite off more than you can chew ;)

thanks LionOfNarnia, I am planning on starting out in the Low Intensity Conflict Zones, so hopefully they will be a little easier to learn in.....lol

I would suggest Nav Beacons to get used to the ship. Less intensive, and you get more help taking down baddies. Also get a KWS and make some bank while you practice. Reminder: NEVER shoot till the scan completes and says Wanted.

Thanks for the advice Loriath, I found this loadout and was what I was going to try out. It seems to even have the KWS!!

That would work nicely, but the power management is all screwed up if you end up getting your power plant taken out. When that happens, if you are not Blown up (Small Chance) Its halved. You would be dead in the water. I changed the power Management settings to at least keep you moving so you can GTFO if needed with a chance of surviving.

Try This. Same loadout, just Management Adjusted. They say a dead Power Plant is 50% but 40 is safer.

Thanks, I didnt even realize all that stuff was adjustable like that. Just when I think I am getting things figured out, it takes another turn!!!

Thanks so much for the help.

I haven't considered changing priorities yet with the new 50% power plant feature. Shouldn't the FSD be prioritized higher so you can jump? Or do you figure to run and then change priorities manually when you are not getting shot (maybe turn off shields to free up power)?

I hope whoever made this great tool will change it so you can set different priorities when retracted and deployed and maybe for what happens if you lose your power plant. :)

edit - oh yeah, FD would need to make that change, too! :P

Yes, there SHOULD be at least 2 power management presets now, but you know FD *sighs*

-until then, it's the 'try to do it on the panel while all hell breaks out around you' method for us all, I guess :(

That loadout seems designed for PvP to me, I'd drop one of the HRPs for an FSI (at least a 'C') & swap the weapons - beams (or bursts) in the mediums & multis in the smalls - if it was my build. You have the speed to pursue anything, so getting their shields down fast & machine-gunning their armour away while they try to run is an effective tactic :)

In my opinion, the difficulty of combat scales KINDA like this (from most forgiving to most dangerous.)

Nav Beacons
Low Intensity RES
RES
High Intensity RES
Low Intensity Conflict Zone
Compromised Nav Beacon
Hazardous RES
High Intensity Conflict Zone
(Some) Strong Signal Sources

The ONLY reason I put High CZ's where I did is because the ships in them are larger and more well armored (as well as high ranked) and, at least in MY experience, CZ's are the only places I've ever been attacked without firing the first shots (ever since they took the pirate kill squads out of the game.) Which means that once you pick a side you can literally be shot just for flying around :)

That, and they're super hectic and fun :D
