In the immortal words of Dick Dasterdly "Drat! Double-Drat! & Triple Drat!"
I have been out in the black for about a month now and 6KLY from Sag A*. Today, I jump into a black hole and like a bird flying into a window - smash my head right into it. My canopy has cracked!

What the heck should I do!
1. Be brave and wear brown trousers all the way to Sag A*?
2. Be a coward and wear nice clean underwear back to the bubble?
.. I think I'm going for number 2 - (and I don't mean number 2's)
EDIT: I'm going to continue on - to heck with the consequences.
Anyone had any similar experiences with that canopy over such a long trip?

Continue on.
Carefully and come 1.5 /2.0 you can repair the canopy with a field maintenance unit.

Thanks for the advice; I'm continuing on. I'm almost out of AFMU ammo but I think I have enough. I realised it was actually a binary system that I crashed into and throttling back for some reason did not slow me down - (drivers I think). I've rebooted the system and seems to be behaving now.

It would require you having horizons but with it you can land find some mi eras and replenish AMU ammo.

Long range exploring might be a thing

Excellent suggestion - didn't even think of that! I'm glad that I have the Lifetime Expansions Pass, which includes Horizons. You're definitely right about exploring becoming a thing!
Thanks so much again!

If you can I recommend trying the beta, the first few attempts in the buggy is well best described as "a tad suicidal" at least while figuring out the controls

I've been dabbling with it a little since it was released, especially when Exploring was getting tedious. I bought a Cobra MkIv and the SRV and went scooting off to Europa. I really had to commit suicide a few times

Great fun though. The game just keeps getting better IMHO. The work that FD are doing is quite admirable.

Not had any canopy damage, but I have had an unforunate near death experience from heat damage on the way to Sag A. My modules were really messed up so I turned back. Call me a wuss, but better to get the cash than risk it. Now I pack an auto-repair module ;O)

Don't be a wuss. Keep going. I ended up with not much canopy left after a long trip. Map x to kill speed and as soon as you come out of jump hit x. Its hard on a long journey but try to find a new rhythm. I am getting ready on another accout to join the 65k trip to Beagle Point
