The barnacles are alive

Hello Commanders,

Wanted to bring this to more commanders attention.

I was just now listening to radio sidewinder, a couple of people talking about the game and they were speculating on the barnacles, with one stating I hope they are not eggs or something...

I found this odd, as last week on lave radio which streamed their 100 podcast, including an interview with David Braben, I heard David Braden state that barnacles are alive. If anyone wants to hear it for themselves (plus quite a lot of other interesting things like hunting 20 ton animals for their rare eyelashes), you can skip through the podcast until you find David's voice and note there are 3 parts.

I would have thought that barnacles are alive would be common knowledge by now, maybe not so I'm adding to that.

The real question is not whether they are alive, that seemed obvious from the start. The question is are they alive as in a plant is alive, alive as in a cat is alive, or are they fully sentient.

If they are alive as in a plant is alive, then a lot of us are guilty of Eco vandalism, if they are in the cat spectrum then we are guilty of cruelty, if they are fully sentient then it's likely that we have pissed something off mightily.

Well actually, we may have done that anyway...

So the real question is... are we vandals, cruel, or murderers?

Alive, yes, but maybe not sentient.

Potatoes and cows are alive, and are farmed. Many would not think twice about eating burgers and chips with a glass of milk while sitting on a leather chair.

There are limited ways to interact with them, and definitive nudges from FD to move on the threads of the storyline, with harvesting CGs and meta-alloys curing stations linked to UA damage.

Even without FD I suspect they would have ended up being shot anyway, such is the nature of humanity.

Whilst the technology of the 34th century may be hugely advanced, society is closer the 16th/17th centuries, we fight over new discoveries, piracy is rife, and the most successful are privateers, large corporations, and corrupt governments.

What we find we either shoot, eat, or enslave (or a combination of all three), only the strongest survive and the weak perish.

Man is not measured by his contribution to society, but by the lives he has taken, by his wealth, or by what he lays claim to.

There is reckoning coming, and on that day we shall be judged, not by the good we have done, but by the strength we can muster.

Until FD announces it, this CG is not real.
