What can a newbie expect of playing with Mobius?

I've signed up for Mobius because I like the idea of a friendly, PvE community.
In practice, though, I am curious what this will translate into. Is it likely that I'll bump into lots of actual players while faffing about in the bubble? Are Resource Extraction Sites teeming with human players? Or is it more of a background thing, and I'd basically have to seek out other players and wing up with them if I wanted to actively play Elite with others?
On a related note, I'm currently mostly playing to get enough money to fully upgrade my Cobra MkIII, so I can then start pursuing the engineers' upgrades. How easy is it to team up with other Mobius players for some bounty-hunting fun and profit?

Hi Thirith, well to quote Douglas Adams "Space is big. Really big...", so don't expect to see you scanner full of hollow blips everywhere you go, for example there are literally thousands of RES in the bubble so the chances of dropping into one with other people without arranging it in advance is rare (although it does happen).
CGs are generally well populated, and there are often Commanders in the systems around Azrael (the home of the Order of Mobius), but on the whole people are fairly spread out, so to your question, yes you'll need to go and find people to play with.
The best thing too do is to add your name too one of our in-game friends lists
In game friends list for PC In game friends list for XBox USIn game friends list for XBox EUeveryone who has posted in these are happy to receive friend requests and once added you'll be able to see where they are in the galaxy map and chat with them directly.
and/or hit up our
TeamSpeak servers or
Discord (voice and text chat) servers to easily chat with, and possibly wing up with other commanders.
You can also post in the
Meeting Point section to see if anyone is up for coop work.

Most commanders are spread out all over space and time zones doing their own thing. I rarely see anyone. If you want to fly with someone, then check the groups section.
I would expect to see others around CGs though.
Fly safe

Thanks a lot for the kind welcome! I think that for now I'll just go for group play and see how much of a difference it makes. In any case, glad to see there are friendly, PvE-oriented groups like Mobius!

you'll find a lot of cmdrs at the bottle necks, Sothis, CG's and engineering stations - apart from that you really need to use out of game tools like this forum to wing up as the galaxy is too big for random wings

I sometimes go days without seeing another player... then I'll see 12. It's kind of random because, yes, space is big.
Engineer bases, Sothis, and CG locations are where you are most likely to run into someone and say a quick hello before jumping off in other directions.
I've winged up with people in Mobius several times, and at least seen CMDR Mobius himself in a station once, a while back, but that isn't likely to happen at random. You'll have to do some organizing with people.

Yeah, don't expect to find many players just flying around unless you go to known popular systems, engineer bases, and CGs. In the past 3 months, I only remember seeing 2 players, and one of those was at an engineer base.
18 months ago I used to run into players every night. I'd wing up in RESes and sometimes see multiple players in stations. I'd played with players from all over the world. Now that the group has 5 times as many members, I'd bet there are less than half than were playing 18 months ago. My friends list goes on forever and I almost never see a green ship icon on the galaxy map anymore.
And splitting the group because there was no way to trim all the dead wood didn't help the situation. Thanks FD.
But the good news is nobody's going to shoot at you, and if you do meet someone they'll probably say hi at the least.

Thanks for the responses. I'll probably try some Mobius play, knowing that in practice and without organising anything specific it might not be all that different from solo play, but that'll make bumping into one of you online all the more special.

Those little green icons on your galaxy map will be strangely heart warming.

I sometimes wander the galaxy map, just to see who is where, and if I see someone in an area that has my interest, I might send a direct text chat. Most commanders respond kindly.
Personally, I'm very impressed with the E: D community in general and Mobius group in particular.

Fly safe.
