Let me start my answer with a friendly warning, if you focus solely on the big ships like they are some sort of end game prize, you will in all likelihood turn the game into a grind, become frustrated, and will ultimately be disappointed. The 'best' way is to do what you most enjoy doing, and eventually you'll get there, and have a lot more fun on the way.
Ok, with that out of the way, there is a lot of information missing from your question, how long have you been playing? What do you like doing? What ship(s) do you currently own? How many credits do you currently have?
The quickest way it to probably grab a ship with a decent cargo carrying capability (and a fuel scoop) and do a bunch of Sothis/Ceos runs (a couple of adjacent systems out on the edge of the bubble that pay multiple millions for hauling biowaste a few hundred lys), the process is dull and repetitive, but does come with the added side effect of quickly increasing your trade rank.
If combat is more your thing, then RES (resource extraction sites) are your friend, if you are 'good' at combat hit up the Hazardous ones.
The right missions can actually pay quite well, but you'll need to work on your reputation with the local factions as the highest paying ones come with the highest reputation. You are going to have to do this anyway if your eventually want the Corvette as it's locked behind federation ranks.
Exploration probably has the worst credits per hour, so unless that's a particular passion I'd avoid it if expediency is a real requirement.

What do you want to do? Ships are mostly a means to an end not necessarily an end in itself. I've been playing since July. I went from a sidey, to a Cobra Mk3, Asp, and now a Python. Each ship was an upgrade that let me do what I wanted to do a little bit better. I thought about getting an Anaconda next, but decided to wait since the python is such a great multi-role ship. At this point I'm starting to look at the engineers a bit more seriously and also having fun just going from CG to CG.

OK I started with the standard ship went to cobra mk3 then to viper mk4 now I have a type 6 transport and I'm 176ly away from sothis I have about 170 hrs logged into ed already .
I am with the federation I have a good rep definitely with trading combat I'm ranked as novice all in all I'm tired of doing conflict zones and getting blown away (not in my type 6) I had all the best equipment on the viper and still shot to hell within seconds
Currently I. Believe I have 8 mill credits

Ok, so what I would probably do is work towards an Asp Ex, fit it for long range hauling (D rated except FSD, decent fuel scoop like a 5A), you'll be able to carry 88T with a 3D shield, then spam Sothis/Ceos.
The Asp Ex has more cargo space than a Type 6 in this configuration and a hell of a bigger jump range.

I just outfitted my Python for trading and found the most profitable trade routes and traded in wings a lot... also did combat but it wasn't nearly as profitable....did some smuggling too which was fun.
The Conda takes a bit of getting use to at first, especially till you can afford better thrusters. The space stations just seem a whole lot smaller for some reason lol.

I was thinking about the asp ex also looking towards the dbx

As someone with over a billion in assets and 2 Anacondas (one for combat and one for trading... still working on my Fed/Imp rank), the Asp Explorer is still my favorite ship to fly. Great for long distance/rare trading, excellent for exploration. Plus, it's decent in combat, too. It's got a great canopy view, it has great maneuverability in super-cruise, excellent heat management for fuel scooping, decent cargo capacity, and excellent jump range.
