Speed Kills! Yes, yes it does.....

So... I was leaving one of my allied stations in the Vette, and cleared the slot at a speed that was a little over the 100km speed limit, like I've done thousands of times before. After clearing the slot, I boosted as I turned toward my jump target system. I nicked an incoming NPC ship in the process. I saw a message about a 500 credit fine for reckless flying. I thought to myself.... no biggie, I'll cover that when I stop in next time. I've gotten a few dozen of those fines in the past.
The next thing I know the station defenses have opened up on me, and my fully battle ready Vette was destroyed in a few seconds.
Holy crap!
Speed truly kills, commanders. It's a new world out there.

Yeah, I heard they boosted station defences for this update.
I think David Braben actually mentioned it in one of the streams, I believe he said it was to
combat newbie griefing in starter star-ports, but obviously it looks like all of them have been boosted.
Ouch, though, expensive re-buy I'd imagine.

Yup.
Stations now kill you in 3.5 seconds instead of 8.
Dead is still dead in my book.

But, Pre 2.2 I was never fired upon from the station for bumping an NPC while leaving the slot. I was just given the fine and 'be on your way, commander'. Now it's insta-death.

You probably clipped something small, that then crashed with the station and blew up.
This gives you a murder bounty, but you probably don't notice in the three seconds before you get blown up and it clears.
I dI'd it with my first trade conda last year.

That could be it. It all happened so fast it was amazing.
I wish to God that I had ShadowPlay running at the time so that I could have gotten a better idea of exactly how it all happened.

The whole speed limit zone feels much larger now, don't know if i'm only imagining things..

Agreed. It's all the way out to the end of the No Fire Zone. I don't remember it being that large before.

Maybe in a Vette, but about .5 seconds in a Sidey. You don't even have time to say Oh Shit!
Tested doing stupid stuff in the beta.
I do like the idea of speed limits, but maybe 100 inside stations and 150 outside.
NPCs sure don't pay any attention to the speed limit after they exit the station!
