Bounty Hunting - Hostile NPC's and fixing rep

Postby Ironclad » Sat Dec 06, 2014 4:14 pm

Hi

I'm still struggling to understand the bounty hunting idea behind E:D
1. Show up at a nav point
2. engage wanted ships, AFTER i verify their status.
3. Find next bounty.

What actually happens is that the local NPC's turn hostile on me (Marked red on my scope), at some point, they will engage me (usually the system authority ships), mind you I am NOT wanted.

I have read a post on reddit claiming this is intended. I don't mind having to bug out after 3-4 bounties, I do mind having my reputation with a faction go from neutral to unfriendly (with the federation, and i'm in federation space).

So does anyone have insight into this? Any tips on how to improve relations?

I have…seen things you people wouldn't believe…Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those…moments…will be lost in time, like tears…in...rain. Time…to die…

According to what I read, the system authority ships are more likely to turn red on you if the ship you attack is from the same faction as them.

The only thing I can say is try to hunt ships from other factions, or in Anarchy/independent systems. The overall ranks (federation, alliance, empire) don't seem to work at the moment anyway. Once the ranks actually start working, we will see how the system works. For the time being, overall rank will not change, only your rank for specific factions. So as long as you ignore killing them, you should be fine.

I hunted a few bounties at a Nav Point and after a while I noticed a red ship on my scanner. I flew toward it and watched a Federal Authority Ship attacking `another` Federal Authority Ship. I was trying to find my screenshot key - in the excitement I couldn`t get to it quick enough and `boom`.

Weird though. Maybe the deceased pilot had a fling with the others wife/husband or something and a skirmish with a bounty hunter and pirates near a nav point was the ideal opportunity to get revenge.

I'm enjoyed nights of skirting feds across the hulls of other ships as they fire at me which causes them to be wanted...

Stupid feds, free cash is always wanted.
