Fast hard lesson tonight

Well, after playing solo and doing OK making money, I found this fine group and joined. Now I don't know if there are differences in the damage model between the different modes, i.e. open, solo, private...but, after racking up about 9 mil in bounties for the CG in Sutekh, I noticed my canopy was cracked after taking on an Anaconda in my ASP Explorer with a few NPC's. No biggie I thought, never seen that in solo before. Boy was I wrong. UPGRADE your life support!!!! 5 minutes is not enough! Lol. First thing I did when I respawned in Archimedes. Ahhhh.

I'm sure it was my limited dogfighting skill combined with a bit of liquid courage as I initiated the combat expecting the NPC's that were close to jump in as they did for the previous 8 mil or so. Oh well, I've got 25 minutes to turn tail now. I really need to practice combat

Well it is common if you are dogfighting. Usually people just fit a D because it is lightest and uses less power than a E. I think that gives 7:30.

Nearly every time I've lost a ship in combat it was because I had no shields, a fair amount of hull and/or canopy damage, but had the brilliant idea that I can finish off "this last one" pirate.
Yup... lots of rebuy screens pop up right after that.
It happens to all of us. Learn from it (which it sounds like you already did) and get back out there. The lesson I learned was.... running away from that last potential kill is less humiliating than facing the rebuy screen.

I had my first anaconda for less than a week when I got jumped between habitable systems and had the cannot blown out. I had doubled down on trading thinking 'oh I'll make it, get more money and have more than the rebuy'. Yup, lost the anaconda.

It's either the power plant or the canopy on that sob lol.

Had a Vulture and yes, had the canopy break many times. Had never had it happen on an ASPE yet. Anywho...glad to be around in Mobius. I was getting tired of solo but was tired of getting jumped by wings on open. On a side note, first time in top 25 on a CG!

If you are going to hit a Res that is far away from a station with repair capabilities you can look into nearby systems before you go in. More likely than not you will find a port very close to a star. Jumping to that system and doing a short SC trip rather then trying to reach a port inside the same system may just save your life. You can pre-nav it if you want to be extra efficient.
This tip is good for undermining, as well as for those risky missions that involve evading high level NPC's.
