The friends list FPS bug is still present. Is purging a solution?

The friends list FPS bug is still present it seems. Before 2.3 I would get 80-90 fps with my HMD inside stations, after the initial 2.3 release it dropped to 50-60 fps (unacceptable for an HMD). After the patch it seems steady at 60-70 fps across all modes.

Can I get the remaining 20-30 fps back by deleting all groups and friends? My friends list is pretty "huge", so I wouldn't mind slimming it if it gave me my performance back. Has anyone done this, does anyone know?

Although that would negate the groups/friends features somewhat...

Try solo. It shouldn't do all the list matching there.
So that's about as good you can expect.

Saying that I'm noticing more fps problems with this release, res sites are damn near unplayable in a wing for me.

I'm seeing similar (lower) fps across all modes.

I asked the same question on the official forum, and a cmdr with a second account (and no friends attached) will report back.

Well, this is after I have cleared all but six, maybe seven friends so really shouldn't be seeing this.

It's just worse for VR that's about it now.

Deleting everyone is a bit drastic :D
playing in Solo has the same effect. I've never had frame rate drops in Solo.
Though, I had hopes the patch yesterday actually worked. I didn't have any friends list related frame rate issues all night.
Anyhoo, if your frame rate is down no matter what, I suspect you have a different issue on your setup.
Do you have recording or streaming software installed? Have you checked and disabled those in the graphics driver bundles and the Xbox app?

Nothing has changed in my setup. The only change is the roll out of 2.3. As TT says, performance is just worse in VR mode across the board. I don't know what the 2D performance is like.

Might not be noticed outside of VR except on really low end machines, VR is a huge performance cross, and a lot of things that has been true for a while, like you only need an i5 for gaming, simply doesn't hold water anymore.
