What does it actually do? I have just found a crashed 'something' and it has a datapoint on it. I have targeted it, switched to turret and tried to hit the data point scanner but nothing happens. Anyone got some idea on how this works?

From what I have seen on the Videos FD did with Ed on the livestream, Public Data points get you something like combat bonds that you cash in. When you have some at a station planetside, scanning one will activate a timer, and you have a certain amount of time to scan them all to get bonuses. Ones that are Private are similar but will activate a response from security who will attack you (Skimmers and such) and you will receive fines and bounties if high enough.

I've been unable to get the thing to work - along with many others. Bugged, I think.
It's time to give this another go.

Definitely bugged, I have tried many many buttons in my regular setup.

Only way I have gotten it to work is enter turret veiw, select and aim at the thing, swap from my normal custom setup to default M+K bindings, use right mouse button to scan, swap back to my normal HOTAS bindings and be on my way...

Well after that mission I took.......

And really faffing around trying to make out what exactly the fuck I was meant to do...... :?

Datapoints........

Make sure you have the scanner assigned to a weapon group....Like the KWS is......

AND check it is assigned......Because I assigned it and it somehow forgot that I had.......

In turret mode.....TARGET the data point and THEN scan it.......

I had to Scan 3 in a certain time to deactivate them and reveal the mission target.....

Complete pain in the arse working THAT out......

The vid I took is a fecking spielberg epic.....

Think I just figured it out.

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3832

In short it needs to be deployed.
Problem: There is no working "deploy hardpoints" button in the buggy.
Temp solution: set "firing deploys hardpoints" to on.
Second problem: Firing groups still bugged, have to set a key for the DTS directly.

After this is done, use turret mode and hit the defined button.

So there is a little boy\robot\alien falling in love with the space buggy, looking soulfully at a reflective surface until we spend three hours figuring out it's just another intense case of emotional transference to an inanimate object ?
