Failed Mission? Fine? WTF?

So late last night I pick up a commodity delivery mission that had 24 hours to complete, which I figured I'd complete today. Now I picked up a data delivery mission to stack. As I'm out and about, I get a message saying that I failed the commodity delivery mission, which should have still had several hours to complete. Then I noticed a 3k fine with 6D 23H & xxM.

Is that normal? Do you get a fine for failing a mission? I've abandoned them before w/o any issues. And what's with the countdown? Does that mean I have to pay it off before that or I'll be wanted, or I'm already wanted in that system and should stay away for 7 days? Or something else entirely.

Yep some missions you will get a fine for failing.....

You have to read the mission description when you take it and it will tell you of any fines....

I've had missions time out with 3 days to go....Not in 2.1 though....Missions are a bit borked...I just take one and do it straight away now....

And yes you have 6 days whatever to pay the fine off.....It's only a fine not a bounty.....

And why the eff are missions still borked? I've also gotten the 0H 0M update a few times.
How hard can this be to get right?

I've had quite a few of the 0H 0M mission updates, and yup... their bugged.

I haven't had any trouble with missions timing out early since 2.1 though. I frequently take bunches (10-15) of missions after work and complete them the next day. I just make sure that the duration on the mission fits my RL timeframe. And as Kharma mentioned, many missions carry a fine if not completed. Most are insignificant, but some of them are substantial.
