Unidentified Signal Source

Postby Myrm » Mon Apr 20, 2015 2:23 pm

I'm a little confused with Unidentified Signal Sources (USS)

I can see them and lock onto them whilst in SuperDrive. I get as close as I can and drop out of SuperDrive, but once I drop out I can't see the USS anymore. I don't see them on my radar or on my system map.

How can I find and investigate my USS once I drop out of SuperDrive?

Thank you. :)

When your close enough to the USS to drop out of supercruise, you are at the unidentified source....usually some ship, like a wedding barge or something. And to see others you have to go back into supercruise.

USS's (as well as the Weak and Strong Signal Sources) are 'areas' rather than objects, so when you drop from SC there isn't necessarily one transmitting source to find, like you would have with a station.
What you should get, if you drop from SC when you get the blue 'safe to disengage' message, will vary. After a few seconds you should see one or more ships, or some canisters floating in wreckage and who knows what else in the future.
If you wait for a while and nothing appears on the scanner then I've very rarely seen 'empty' USS's but the rest of the time there will be something to do, even if it's to run away quickly from a wing of aggressive Anacondas :D

Edited to attempt to clarify myself. I'm not sure I helped here. Need more Lemsip......

Just be wary of the differences, USS in my experience can be anything from wedding barge, funeral procession or some small time wanted NPC's (adders, cobras etc)
Weak Signal Source (WSS) is normally cargo floating around the wreck of a destroyed ship
Strong Signal Source (SSS) is pretty much always a group of several high tier fighters, often a mixture of at least 1 and often more Anaconda and several Vultures, up to about 9 ships.
These are there for Wings to attack so be very very wary as a lone [player as when you arrive in the SSS it can be empty with just some high value canisters floating about, the moment you go to scoop them you will see a comms message saying "i Can't believe they fell for that" at which point you will come under a hail of fire!!!
Best plan is as soon as you drop into the instance is to immediately target another Super-cruise destination ready for a swift exit, or better still, avoid unless in a strong wing of ships.
