You can have a Primary, and secondary weapon assigned to each fire group.

To scroll through your fire group, the default key is N ... next fire group.

Ive got mine bound to my mouse wheel, so scroll down for next, and scroll up for previous.

If you want some fighting .. then there are the Fed distress signal, and High / Low intensity combat zones at Eranin, I Bootis - and maybe Dahan (?) At high intensity you tend to come up against ships bigger than federal fighters, and sidewinders.

Just travel towards the spaceport/platform .. and you will see the target signal come up , like USS. target that and fly towards it and come out of FD when you get within 1000m.

Also, any resource extraction site has a few baddies lurking about, but they.re better for Bounty hunting, and at the Beacon where you enter the system.

Hope that helps !

Hey,

When you assign things to fire groups, you have to cycle through your fire groups to enable them.

Look at that screenshot:

Here I have two fire groups, the first one with multi-cannons on trigger 1 and lasers on trigger 2, and the second with the basic discovery scanner on trigger 1 and the kill warrant scanner on trigger 2.

When I deploy my hardpoints, I then use the next/previous fire group key to switch between the weapons group and the scanner group. And obviously I use the first or the second trigger depending on what I want to fire.

If you mean the Cobra Mk III then yes, that is a good combat ship. I recommend loading it down with gimbal multi cannons. Equip the normal cannons first, not the over-powered or other types until you get the hang of combat and what works best for you. When you enter a combat zone, stop, deploy your hard points and wait for the other ships to appear before selecting a faction to fight for. To select a faction, open the right control panel (where the weapons grouping is), go to the 'Functions' tab and then select which team you want to join.

Head for a planet with a ring system. There's a chance of a resource extraction site there.
